My husband and I are slowly replacing our old cookware with investment pieces. We have wanted to try some All-Clad cookware for a long time and so far, it is exceeding our expectations. The pans heat so much more evenly than anything else we own and they really haven't proven to be a pain to clean (which we were sort of expecting). We heeded the advice of the instructions and the reviews from others and keep the heat lower than we normally would..... cook like a dream. I find the weight of the pans to be really nice. I sort of thought that the lids would be heavier. They are very light, but provide a really good seal. Like some of the other reviewers, I bought some Bar Keeper's Friend, but have only had to use it once. I really like this 5 piece set, too because we didn't get a bunch of extra stuff that we really didn't want... and the price was exceptional (black friday sale).

I waited a while and wanted to use these for a few weeks before really making an informed review. I was concerned after having not cooked on "quality" cookware how much of a difference I would notice or if it would even make that much of a difference in my cooking at all. It did. They wont obviously just make you a great cook just by using them, but once you do get used to them they make a huge difference over cheaper sets. Food cooks evenly, they heat up fast, they hold heat really well, and there are no hot spots that Ive been able to tell.

The only negative that I would consider is the handles for the lids does get pretty hot if you're braising, boiling, or doing anything where steam/heat gets to the lid. Simple solution for me was just to keep a towel close by (which I normally do anyways) and Ive gotten in the habit of using that to open the pots that I know have been on the stove for a while.

Recap, well worth the investment IMO.

People tell me to get All-Clad all the time because it will make life easier and you'll enjoy cooking more. It's totally TRUE. I didn't know the value of owning a great set of cookware until we got this set. We have an electric cook-top that we do not like, but aren't able to redo the kitchen with gas anytime soon. The high quality of this cookware negates the disadvantages of not having the gas stove we loved in our old place. This is the best set at the best price I have found, and I've been looking for a few years.

The only problem with getting the larger sets of all-clad is that frequently you run into overlap between the sets; my husband and I ended up with a few duplicates once we combined households. This set, however, includes the three pans I use the most. The 10.5" saute pan works wonderfully for sauteing, but also for risottos as well as for steaming and frying dumplings; the fry pan can comfortably fry up bacon and then eggs for two people; the 3qt sauce pan is a good size for soups-- I find the 2-qt too tall and narrow. Warning: the short handle on the saute pan will *not* stay cool to the touch like the long handle; never grab the short handle with your bare hand if the pot is still hot.

Since the bases of these pans are so heavy, they take a bit longer to warm up, but once they do, you can turn the flame down and let the pan's thermal mass do the hard work for you. My husband used to think that he needed non-stick to cook anything. When you've got good heavy stainless cookware, however, you'll find you won't miss non-stick pans. If your food is sticking (and you don't want it to be), you've likely got the heat up too high. If you do accidentally burn something on that leaves marks, a little bit of scrubbing with Bar Keepers Friend will make your pan look as good as new.

The plain fact is that good, solid cookware makes cooking predictable and enjoyable. There are far fewer accidents resulting in ruined meals. Before cooking with the all-clad, my husband thought that the limit of his kitchen abilities was whatever he could cook on the grill. Now he cooks dinner about twice a week; sometimes breakfast, too!

My set of All-Clad is over ten years old; I can't actually tell the difference between my pots and the ones that are only three years old-- they all look great in the kitchen, hanging from the potrack. These are industrial-strength showpieces that come with a lifetime warranty. They're a worthy investment, especially if you enjoy food.

I have several All-Clad pieces which I slowly acquired over 5 years to build my set. I wish I had discovered Amazon sooner. All-Clad is the best product ever. If you burn the pan you just use a cleaning product called "bar keepers friend" and it is like brand new again. I bought this exact set once for my sister and again for my brother both asa house warming present. It is a perfect starter set.

First, I should note that this set has the recent updates (stamped bottom, nylon bags, supposedly improved handles and USA lids).

The quality of the cooking area is very high, but the handles are shockingly poor. How was this design even approved in the first place, let alone not corrected over time? I've tried every different type of grip I could think of, but the handles are simply poorly contoured; no matter how you slice it, you're going to have one or two thin areas of metal digging into your hand. It's a shame, because I think a minor change could completely resolve the problem.

It's true that cookware should be handled in person, but not every town will have a place that stocks all the higher end brands. Still evaluating options, but this is probably going back.

Update: Ended up going with Mauviel's M'Cook stainless, and while the handles aren't perfect, they are much better. The overall quality seems to be a bit better as well.
