I checked out other reviews before purchase. The pictured item looked like the case was entirely stainless steel. Only the face is, the backside is plastic. I guess that's why it melted on the stove according to another reviewer. Anyway, keeping that in mind, it's a good looking timer. Not much to it, it functions well as a clock and a timer. Wish I would have waited until after Christmas - it's on sale for half the price.

As Solid as All-Clad gets,

My husband bought this timer for cooking purposes but I have hogged it for my private tutoring lessons. It works so great as both a clock and timer that I have ordered a second one to place in my office instead of buying a regular clock. I love that the time is visible best from a certain angle. This works great for me because my students are not tempted to keep looking at the clock during lessons because they know they won't see the time. As for the timer, it doesn't have an obnoxious or awfully loud tone. It's just loud enough so that if you are sitting right next to it, it doesn't blow your eardrum. I will keep you posted on how long the battery lasts.

This unit is a very solid well crafted kitchen clock and timer. The display is bright and clear. The unit is very heavy, and sits firmly on the kitchen counter-top. The metal finish on the front is very substantial, seems like it will last. The back is a good grade of plastic, well finished. The 2 AA batteries sit near the bottom, giving it good stability. One can set the timer for hours, minutes, and seconds. The alarm is clear and pleasant once the time set has been reached. The clock is easy to set, and seems very accurate.
Unlike one of the other reviews suggests, the unit is not a thermometer, and has no probe. Use it to see the time, or as a timer.
