Biography

The Young Dubliners are psyched up for the release of Saints and Sinners, their second album on 429 Records--and first batch of original material since 2005’s critically acclaimed Real World. After taking an exciting retro, rootsy labor of love detour to give a shout out to the masters of Irish song past and present on their 2007 429 Records debut With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions, the… Read more in Amazon's Young Dubliners Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Cut from the same cloth as bands like Great Big Sea, Black 47, and the Pogues, the Young Dubliners put some rock 'n' roll in their Irish ditties. Here on its sixth album, the L.A.-based band looks back to the old country, mostly reinterpreting some of the Emerald Isle's greatest songs. Pogues fans will recognize such classics as "If I Should Fail To Fall From The Grace Of God" and "Pair Of Brown Eyes," and there are two Dubliners songs too, but the rest are traditionals as well as one original and one song adapted from a Patrick Kavanagh poem. Likely best enjoyed in the company of friends, this album is prime fodder for night of drinking in the pub thanks to the sing along choruses and big crunchy guitar parts. It's a fair piece from the tradition, but this band manages to keep the communal aspect of Irish music intact, and that means this tribute hits just the right note. –-Tad Hendrickson

Product Description

The hard-rockin' Irish band the Young Dubliners celebrate St. Paddy's day with all the gusto and charm only a bunch of good ole Irish lads can do (with a couple of American's to even out the pot). All the pub favorites with a few ballads thrown in for good measure. Why, it's what St. Patrick himself would be hummin' if he had the mind to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Celtic traditions meet the new millennium, March 14, 2007
This review is from: With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions (Audio CD)
This disc was my introduction to the Young Dubliners, and I was interested in it because of its largely traditional, or at least very Irish, selections. Many have been done by their namesake, the Dubliners, and there's no question that these young'uns are worthy successors to the elder band. If the Young Dubliners are the sons of the Dubliners, the Pogues are their older brothers. This is real Celtic music that rocks out. Still, they are more tuneful and, as they proclaim, respectful of that which came before--- which distances them a bit from their Irish rock cousins Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly (at least on this album-- not a knock on the latter 2 bands, just a difference). They also cover the slower or gentler tunes with equal aplomb (Raglan Road, for instance, is beautifully portrayed but still very much a Young Dubliners song-- as well as a Dubliners song). But it's the rave-ups that get you from the get-go. This is THE album to get for this St. Paddy's Day. Or for any day in the year, for that matter. If you love your celtic music, but want it with a modern kick, this is as good as it gets.

5.0 out of 5 stars This cd Rawkkkksssss., February 20, 2007

This review is from: With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions (Audio CD)
Not only does this cd rock, but these are some of the most talented musicians I have ever heard or seen. I've had the opportunity to see them play at several St. Paddy's Day Festivals and they are amazing. This cd absolutely shows their talents and their interpretations of these Irish covers is poetic. Whatever you do, put the music on LOUD.....that's how it's meant to be heard....

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish music with a distinctly modern twist, January 30, 2009
This review is from: With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions (Audio CD)
The Young Dubliners was formed in 1988 by two young Dubliners, then living in Santa Monica, California. Their sound is a fusion of pop music and traditional Irish music, which really rocks. With All Due Respect is the bands latest release, and their sound has really come together great.

I found this to be a great album, a really good Irish mix, with I'll Tell Me Ma being my absolute favorite. So, if you like Irish music, and want to hear it with a distinctly modern twist, then get this album. I highly recommend it!
