Product Description

Size: xs

Xsmall Comfy Cone for Chihuahua sized dogs, cats and kittens. The redesigned Comfy Cone still keeps your pets from scratching and biting at skin wounds, hotspots, or post-op stitches. But now Comfy Cone also comes with removable stays, to give it just a little more structure when you need it. When you don't, simply remove the stays to enjoy a softer, flexible cone. Either way, these are a great alternative to stiff, lampshade-style recovery collars. Comfy Cone lets your pet eat and sleep in normal positions while wearing. Because it's flexible, your dog can do many of his normal activities without you having to remove the collar.

Customer Reviews

Sure it's soft to the touch, but it wasn't comfortable for her at all.

I gave the item 5 stars because it was very well made and would have worked much better on our bigger cat if it was needed for him.

It was way too heavy and cumbersome for a small cat and didn't fit well - not a good design all around.

My 13 year old tortie, Gracie O'Malley, sustained a serious laceration to front paw after a squabble with one of our younger cats. She required surgery and was sent home with a horrible plastic cone. I asked the vet tech if I could substitute for one of the soft cones and she advised against it, saying she would not recommended this for cats. Wrong wrong wrong! Gracie had to wear a cone for 10-12 days and I dreaded the experience, so after a miserable 24 hours of her having extreme difficulty drinking water, eating food, using her litter box, finding a comfortable sleeping position, she and I were both a wreck. I was grateful that she was sent home with pain meds and while I know they made her woozy, the damnable plastic cone also contributed mightily to her disorientation. She was just not able to move around with any confidence whatsoever. A friend and animal advocate extraordinaire recommended the Comfy Cone and the difference was amazing. I got the extra small, which has a good range of adjustment in terms of neck size. After she easily ate, drank, and took care of business, Gracie went to her favorite round cuddle bed and curled up and took a long nice nap. Rolling it back to allow more direct access to food and water and to administer meds was a snap. When I would unroll it, she did not object. The velcro is stable and even as she began to feel much better and regain full use of the paw, Gracie did not try to remove the Comfy Cone. She's now been wearing it for 8 days and actually seems to like it. Easy to clean it, too. It comes off tomorrow along with her sutures - hooray for that - but this great product has made recovery much easier on us both - highly HIGHLY recommended.

I bought this for my 5 year old small cat so that she wouldn't scratch at her ears and cause an infection with her claws when seasonal allergies make her ears itch. It worked and she didn't shred it like other soft cones. Plus it is pufffy like a pillow...she was laying her head on it and sleeping before I put it on her! The only thing you will need to do is out an old shoe lace through the eyelets on the cone (I melted the cut end of the shoe lace on the stove...be careful of the dripping liquid plastic when it's hot).

The only thing I didn't like was that I don't think she figured out how to drink with it on. You are able to remove 3 plastic sticks from the cone so that one area of the cone folds down to let your pet eat and drink. The directions say this should be supervised and with dogs that may be possible. But my cat just eats and drinks whenever she wants so I'm not always there to supervise. The problem is that the cone spins and so the folded back area that was at the mouth may be at the back of my cat's head when it's feeding time.

My cat didn't have problems drinking water with another soft cone that folded back all the way around (she looked like a flower!!). The problem with that one was that it wasn't as durable as the Comfy Cone and my cat shredded it after 2 weeks.

I guess you can't get durable cones that can fold all the way around?

I have a size small cone for my 15-16 lb. cat. I use a small dog collar to put thru the eyelets and help secure the cone to the cat. The velcro strips allow the cone's back edge to be relatively flush against the cat's neck so that he can't get his back claws under the edge and dig at it, preventing: (1) the cat from damaging that area of the cone; and (2) choking himself with the collar as he digs at the attached cone.

When the cone is in the full frontal position, the cat can easily walk and run, altho he tends to bump the cone against objects on the side. The cat will also jump on top of tables whose tops are 3 feet off the floor, altho he won't try some of his more ambitious jumps. There is an adjustment period of several hours, however. Initially, the poor cat was walking backwards and going vertical in attempts to remove the cone.

With the cone in the full frontal position, the cat can't eat or drink out of dishes. For those activities, I do one of the following:

(1) Put the cone on so that its front edges point backwards and the cone rests mostly flat across the cat's stomach, back, and sides. The cat can easily eat and drink. However, the cat can't run or jump with this cone configuration, without occasionally catching his feet in the cone and tripping, so that I only use this configuration when the cat is eating and drinking.

(2) Remove the three plastic sticks in the cone and fold the cone back halfway in all areas. The cat is able to run and jump with no problems with this configuration. He is also able to turn around in his carrier, which he can't do when the cone is full extended frontwards.

This is definitely better than the plastic one you would get from the vet but I was expecting the cone to be a better fabric that was more soft. It feels like there is cushion inside the cone, so that definitely makes it better.

This product would do better if the description had the size in cm on it. I just hoped that it would be the right size and it happened that it was. This one is 11cm.
