Music for mamas and babies,
By a listener (Morgantown, WV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All for Freedom (Audio CD)
My close friend titled my birthday copy of this album, "Music for Mamas and Babies." And I, the mama, have played and sung the album with my two children and by myself every day for days at a time. The words that come to mind -- harmony, happiness, thinking, learning, singing -- may be words that you like to hear. Then you would also like to hear a new version of "Cumbaya," a story about the children's song of Ono, Africa, how to fall in love "two by two," and how to make a drum. Sweet Honey's vocal harmonies, unique arrangements, accapella performances, non-accapella performances, commitment to equality, and rich story-telling make this an album to listen to past the time your babies are babies.

This CD will have you singing along in no time! It's jubilant sounds and children participation are so upbeat anyone would smile! These women produce fabulous music even for non gospel music lovers! A great CD for children, and many songs they can sing and move to.

I have used this CD consistently in my music class since I purchased it back in the early days of my teaching career. The music is has a consistently positive message. I have used the "Little Red Caboose" recording with K/1 students and the "Calypso Freedom" song with the 3rd graders in our Civil Rights Music unit. The 4th graders completely dig "Juba" and are intrigued by the history surrounding that song. "So Glad I'm Here" gets everyone rocking and loosened up!

Perfect order! great old folk music, the soul of African American voices that make u want to get up n dance; wonderful harmonies, voices that resonate hope, that we all should listen to as a reminder of what freedom is. From my daughter's childhood days that she used to have on casette, and was thrilled to have it in CD format (had to really hunt to find this exact one!). Thx for super service in every way, & offering this great find for a fair price. After seeing a PBS special on this group, i was hooked!
