I have two of these hoods for one of my 55-gallon tanks. I personally have had no problems with these lights. They're cheaper and easier to deal with (in my opinion) than glass canopies and long strip lights.

I wanted to point out, however, that some people have had problems with the light dying after a few months (see the reviews on Petco's website for this product). I have not had this problem. But, if you should have this problem, try taking your light to your local aquarium specialty store; you can buy a new starter for $1.50 and have a working light again--much cheaper than buying a new one!

I got this item to replace the lights for the set I'd bought from Pet Smart. It was about half the price as the same item from the store, and I got it the day after I ordered it.
