Jack Wagner's 1st Album- A Must Have, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: All I Need (Audio CD)
Jack Wagner's first Album All I Need was first released as an EP in 1984 and then due to his and the music's popularity, it was expanded into a full LP. The songs on the album were originally tied to Jack's fictional band on GH, Riff Raff. Many of the songs were performed on GH for example, Make Me Believe It, Sneak Attack, All I Need and Lady of My Heart. The album starts with a upbeat tune called Premonition(I believe there was even a video made for this filmed in a snowy mountain cabin) and is followed by a catchy tune called "What You Don't Know" (ain't that the truth). Whenever Hearts Collide is the first ballad but not as memorable as either All I Need or Lady of My Heart. All I Need was Jack's first big single and was really the theme song for Frisco & Tania on GH. Tania went on to marry Frisco's brother Tony on the show. The song is sweet and melodic. It was a huge hit on the Top 40 Countdown. The song is still played on many 80s stations. This was Jack's MOST memorable tune. Side 2 of the album starts off on the upswing again with Make Me Believe It & then my favorite tune Sneak Attack. Everyone of us has had this experience I'm sure. Ballad #3 After the Fact is simply a ballad, not that great. Tell Him (That You Won't Go) is there too. Lady of My Heart was hit single #2. This was and still is remembered as Frisco and Felicia's theme song on GH. It is soft & sweet and full of longing. I love it to this day(The song is 15 years old and I still love it) The album is very symetrical. Each side follows the same pattern: two fast songs, one ballad, another fast song & then the POWER ballad. Even though this is the case, if you like Jack Wagner it's a MUST HAVE! For those of you who have never heard it or for others like myself who've heard it I can't tell you how many times in the last 15 years - It's a treat and for me a walk down memory lane. Enjoy!

Great album and a shockingly great remaster, March 15, 2007
I've always loved this album. I am sure many people think of it as mere fluff done by a TV actor. On the contrary, Jack Wagner has a very nice voice and Glen Ballard is a very good pop song writer and keyboardist. If you haven't listened to it before, it has the obvious title track which most everyone would recognize. The rest of the album moves in between fast paced songs like "Premonition" to the ballads of "Lady Of My Heart." It's not an album to be taken "seriously", but it is a sweet work that deals with the themes of love and loss. Much better in my opinion to the ilk of today.
Per the reissue, I have to say that I was shocked....SHOCKED by the remaster. Most people might listen to it and think it's "tinny" and "lifeless", devoid of any rap style bass. That's the reality of music production from then compared to now. Vinyl was never capable of producing the loudness a CD is. That's because CDs today are compressed beyond belief to the point they blow your ear drums out. The gentleman that did the remaster work, Joe Reagoso, is someone I have not heard of but he did an excellent job. He's not a hack who merely maximises the tracks so I lose my hearing. Again, some people might be turned off by the fact that the album does not have pounding bass like a modern one and are required to adjust the volume of their iPod. I have the Japanese reissue and it has the qualities of "loud" which sound good at first, but in actuality you loose any dynamic quality to the music. If you want loud, track down a copy of that. If you are looking for something faithful to the music, this is an excellent, very cheap, reissue.
Ballard's liner notes are brief but nice nonetheless. There are no bonus tracks and frankly I don't think there need to be. I'm not even sure there was anything to add as there were no B-sides as far as I can remember. All in all, an excellent buy for 11 dollars!
