5.0 out of 5 stars All I want for Christmas is You.
Love the song All I Want for Christmas Is You sung by Lisa Layne, of Vince Vance and the Valiants. I started hearing the song last year at Christmas and could not find out who sung it. This year, I finally found the album. Lisa Layne has an unbelievable, hauntingly beautiful voice, a voice that sends shivers up your spine.

5.0 out of 5 stars My very favorite Christmas CD!, June 23, 2000
This review is from: All I Want for Christmas Is You (Audio CD)
This is one outstanding Christmas CD -- it would be outstanding if it only contained the title cut. I heard this song many years ago -- only once -- and it stuck in my head for *so* long and I talked about it so much that my Mom finally had a local music store special order the CD for me for Christmas that next year. I was ecstatic, I finally had the most beautiful Christmas song ever in my own personal collection -- I was even more happy when I found out there were quite a few other beautiful songs on this CD. The titles, "Christmas Just Ain't Christmas Without You" and "Why Can't You Be Here For Christmas" are also poignant and exquisite. Mixed along the way are some traditional songs such as "White Christmas" and some zany songs such as "I Wanna Be A Christmas Tree." Add all this together with some remarkable harmony and you have a stellar CD that will have you pulling it out every Christmas and playing it for everyone you know so that they can be exposed to it as well. Put it on your Christmas wish list as soon as you can -- you won't be disappointed.

We all know how great the song "all I want for Christmas is you" is, but you guys should compare it to lisa layne's cd "shades of blue". vince vance & the valiants cd may have the best cut between cd's but "shades of blue" is the better cd overall. you need both. I listen to "shades of blue" and finish with her two songs from the v,v&v cd. Just amazing. How is it, someone with that voice isn't a big name in country music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Track One. Enough Said., November 7, 2005
This review is from: All I Want for Christmas Is You (Audio CD)
After reading a number of the other reviews for this CD, I can see that I am in the same boat as many others with the same kind of story. For the last few Christmas seasons, the radio station I normally listen goes all Christmas right after Thanksgiving. A song kept playing here and there on the station that just hit me like a locomotive. From what I could tell, the song was called "All I Want For Christmas Is You". The problem?. Well, for one, they never played it enough, but the big problem was that the station hardly has a DJ. When they go Christmas for 24 hours a day for a month, they didn't have the usual disc jokeys. So, there was never anyone who said what the song was and who sang it. Never ever!. I finally tracked it down on the computer. Vince Vance And The Valiants?. Who?. Needless to say, I had no idea who they were. But this song. And this voice. I had to have it. The singer on this song is Lisa Layne, and like many others here, I had no idea who she was. Sadly, most people don't, but she should be a famous star. With that voice, she could do anything. Like Patsy Cline and Brenda Lee, Lisa has a clear cut crystal voice that could pierce your body and touch your very soul. Too much?. She is brilliant. The song is sort of in an old fashioned, bluesy, Christmasy tone, and isn't too far removed from something any of those more classic ladies of country music would of done. But lo and behold, there are actually other songs on this disc. Some good, some not so great, and none that can match or live up to the title track. "Christmas Time In Texas", which I assume is Vince singing, is a fun and entertaining little ditty. It has a kind of "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" quality about it that I just can't put my finger on. Not in the humorous way either. The standard, "White Christmas", is here, and is done in a pretty traditionally standard way. "A Christmas Wish" is a pretty nice song. There are other females credited here, but this one sounds like it could be Lisa Laybe as well. All the female vocals here sound the same. I have no idea. "Can't Wait Till Christmas Day" is a short little song with children singing it. Nothing great. "Christmas Just Ain't Christmas Without You" is a great track. Lisa Layne returns with a real smokey and bluesy piano number that shows off her vocal range and talent even further. Again I ask, why isn't she more fmaous?. "Winter Wonderland" is pretty traditional, but it veers off into the juvenile and silly "I Wanna Be A Christmas Tree". "Why Can't You Be Here For Christmas" is a pretty little ditty, but doesn't rival the best of what's here. It ends with the classic, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", which is done pretty normally except that it has a kind of doo wop sound to it. All 11 songs here have the word "Christmas" in it. But back to the title track. It's the kind of tune that makes you sit up and take notice. Masterfully sung by Layne in a way that is nothing short of brilliant and will never be forgotten. It's no surprise that the song has gone to huge acclaim and is one of the most popular and requested Christmas tunes ever. Lisa Layne. Remember the name. Who Vince Vance is remains a mystery to me. Who exactly is this guy?. One report says the original was Vance Degeneres, correspondent on "The Daily Show" and brother to Ellen. I wanted to verify this but every bio I could find on Vance, even on his own web site, has not one mention of him or the Valiants at all. This mystery continues.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery Solved!, December 17, 2001

Hi to all from Louisana!

The single "All I Want for Christmas is You" first hit the airwaves in 1989 under, of course, Vince, Vance and the Valiants.
This song brings back memories of the great Christmas songs of old with its 60ish arrangement. Mariah Carey's song of the same name did and continues to do the same as well.

The Lead vocalist on this great song is LISA LAYNE (Vickie Valiantette.) Not helping matters much in her identification is the video that is rotated on the Country channels during the holidays. Although the real Vince Vance appears in the video, BIG MYSTERY HERE.. they used a model dubbing the vocals of Lisa Layne. Go figure?

Just a little trivia also thrown in here. Vance Degeneres, brother of the famous Ellen, was the originial Vance in Vince, Vance and the Valiants. Enjoy this great song as I have year after year and cheers to Lisa Layne it's vocal mystery lady for a rip-roaring performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Layne is the best, March 6, 2003

This review is from: All I Want for Christmas Is You (Audio CD)
I first heard the title song in Dallas, TX in the late 80's. At the time V,V & the Valiants were pretty much a local Dallas area band. Ron Chapman, a DJ on Dallas radio station KVIL, played this song each holiday season. It was a long time until I found out the name of the singer, Lisa Layne. The CD is very good. The title song is a great song on it's own. The other songs are also good. There are traditional Christmas songs and some songs that are typical Vince Vance "fun" songs. I feel there are a couple other songs on this CD that could also be singles. The other 2 female singers in the band are very good, but, there is no mistaking Lisa's voice when she is singing her solos, or in their beautiful 3 part harmony's. She is so fantastic I have no idea why, by now, she is not a nationally known super star. Get this CD. You'll be glad you did!

4.0 out of 5 stars Vince Vance Has That Something, December 23, 2004

This review is from: All I Want for Christmas Is You (Audio CD)
Vince Vance & the Valiants have always had that special something that makes it hard to dislike them. For whatever reason, they are able to crank out tunes that are easy to enjoy. Obvious influences of 50's rock and rockabilly are evident in just about every song they put out. That's par for the course on this wonderful Christmas album.

Yes, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is the first track on this disc and probably the one that everybody has heard before. It's my favorite on the album. But so much emphasis is placed on this one song that I'd like to give a little nod to the rest of this album.

"Christmas Time In Texas" is a swingin' little Christmas number that is sure to put anyone in a good mood. Songs like "White Christmas" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" are traditionally done, but with the signature Valiant sound that only Vince can conjure up. "I Wanna Be A Christmas Tree" is probably the weakest track of the bunch, but it's done in a humorous manner that even the toughest critic should be able to look beyond.

In all, this album is the perfect fit for any holiday music collection. It's great to play at parties and is sure to get folks moving their feet.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas Album Ever, November 18, 2001

Not being a lover of Christmas music in general, since most of it tends to be so dreary and/or dippy, this is my only Christmas album and I love it! I've had it for six or seven years years and have bought several copies for friends, who also love it. The title cut alone is worth the price, and I don't understand why Christmas Just Ain't Christmas Without You doesn't get air play. What a great song! Ditto their delightful, toe-tapping renditions of White Christmas, Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Makes you want to get on the dance floor. I'd highly recommend this album to anybody who likes upbeat, happy Christmas music. Now that it's close to Thanksgiving, I've already pulled it out and played it for the first time this year (2001).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best single Xmas song, ever., August 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: All I Want for Christmas Is You (Audio CD)
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" is absolutely the best Christmas song, ever. Our local radio stations have the phone ringing off the hook at Christmas time to play this song. It is the single most requested song at Christmas in this area. People keep bugging the D.J.'s to find out who is singing that song. Whoever the artist is that is singing it (we can't determine who it is) has a wonderful voice. We bought the album, but it doesn't say who the singer is. We play the song occasionally all year long because we enjoy it so much. Also, we like "Christmas Just Ain't Christmas Without You" on the same album. We think the same artist sings both. If anyone knows who it is - we'd sure like to know!
