I've Got A Weather Forecast For You...,
This review is from: All Kinds of Weather (Audio CD)
Go pick up a copy of "All Kinds Of Weather" you will not be disappointed. If you like jazz piano trios, then you will not want to miss any of Red Garland's albums. Garland is joined by his usual trio at that time, Paul Chambers and Art Taylor, which I consider one of the greatest jazz trios ever assembled. This album is one of my favorites by this group. Highly recommended.

Swingin' Through The Seasons With Red Garland's Trio,

One of the great jazz pianists. Especially the late 50's early 60's recordings. All Kinds Of Weather features a soulful rendition of Summertime and swings through Winter Wonderland. The whole album is great! Highly recommended, along with his other recordings.

red garland came to notoriety as the pianist for miles davis' first great quintet of the 50s featuring john coltrane. some critics of the day dismissed mr. garland as a glorified lounge pianist, but this album destroys such naysaying. mr. garland could flat out swing. he may not have pushed the envelope like thelonious monk or bud powell, but he had an encyclopedic knowledge of the american songbook and could find the groove in most any tune-- check out "winter wonderland." here he takes the conceit of working through a seasonal songbook and seems to have a lot of fun doing so.you will, too, as you discover one of the great overlooked talents of the jazz piano.

With Red Garland it doesn't matter if it's raining outside, the weather is always good. At least if it's raining it's better. You can stay at home listening to Red's albums which are always exceptional. This is one of the best. Red here swings with Paul Chambers and Arthur Taylor, and what can I say, they play the perfect jazz trio music. Do you know what does it mean perfection? Each tune is mirably chosen and interpreted by Red's trio as what it really is. I mean, Red does not only play over the chord changes, he plays the tune even if he is improvising he tells the story of the tune. And believe me, it makes a world of difference! Here this fantastic ability that not every jazz player even among the big guys possess, finds its perfect expression being this one a collection about weather conditions. And you have to hear for yourself the stories Red's trio is able to tell you. Stories about the rain, about summer and winter, stories of spring and autumn, stories of storms. The idea of playing weather songs is a winner in the hands of musicians like these because they literally paint the scenaries of those weathers .... This album is simply another exceptional work of art from one of the most perfect pianist in the history of Jazz music. Red Garland.
