5.0 out of 5 stars Great homage to a great guitar player & R&R pioneer!, May 4, 2001

I don't know what these other reviewers were listening to!! ;-) Everyone under 30 should be required to take a class in rock music history and learn that it didn't start w/ Hendrix / Clapton / Richards (who's on this one!). Scotty was creating an "alternative" long before Nirvana......

Play Loud,

4.0 out of 5 stars "They Saw Memphis Give Birth to Rock And Roll", August 21, 2004

4/23: Before I begin this review, let me add something here: like fine wine, this CD has most DEFINITELY just gotten better over the years! OK, back to the circa '05 blurb: Kind of morbid how these tribute things are released on the anniversary of Elvis' death. And August 1997, the twentieth anniversary thereof, saw the realease of "All The King's Men." Still...Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana (Elvis's pre-army, pre-percodan, pre-colonel, and pre-priscilla) Guitarist and Drummer are to be forever praised for inventing Rock and roll instrumentation. (Oh, yes, most ASSUREDLY Chuck Berry too - damn, wouldn't it have been nice to have him on this, too? Ah, fantasies!) Regardless, look who IS on here with Scotty and DJ: Keith Richard and the surviving members of the Band on "Deuce And A Quarter"; the Mavericks on "I Told You So"; and MY favorite American band, Cheap Trick on "Bad Little Girl." The remainder of he CD is no less grand (well, I could go for the rest of eternity without Steve Earle), but the artists Scotty and DJ jamm with are more country. In short? I think Elvis himself would've been pleased with this CD. It's "only" rock nd roll, you know...
