Great homage to a great guitar player & R&R pioneer!,

I don't know what these other reviewers were listening to!! ;-) Everyone under 30 should be required to take a class in rock music history and learn that it didn't start w/ Hendrix / Clapton / Richards (who's on this one!). Scotty was creating an "alternative" long before Nirvana......Play Loud, cmd

"They Saw Memphis Give Birth to Rock And Roll",

4/23: Before I begin this review, let me add something here: like fine wine, this CD has most DEFINITELY just gotten better over the years! OK, back to the circa '05 blurb: Kind of morbid how these tribute things are released on the anniversary of Elvis' death. And August 1997, the twentieth anniversary thereof, saw the realease of "All The King's Men." Still...Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana (Elvis's pre-army, pre-percodan, pre-colonel, and pre-priscilla) Guitarist and Drummer are to be forever praised for inventing Rock and roll instrumentation. (Oh, yes, most ASSUREDLY Chuck Berry too - damn, wouldn't it have been nice to have him on this, too? Ah, fantasies!) Regardless, look who IS on here with Scotty and DJ: Keith Richard and the surviving members of the Band on "Deuce And A Quarter"; the Mavericks on "I Told You So"; and MY favorite American band, Cheap Trick on "Bad Little Girl." The remainder of he CD is no less grand (well, I could go for the rest of eternity without Steve Earle), but the artists Scotty and DJ jamm with are more country. In short? I think Elvis himself would've been pleased with this CD. It's "only" rock nd roll, you know...

True Rock n' Roll Gem,

It's a shame this gem is not in print right now. it's good old guitar driven rock n' roll at its best. To hear the reunited band (minus Robbie Robertson) performing with Keith Richards with Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana showing that old age can't stop rock is absolutely a joy. Among the strongest performances include the Mavericks and Joe Ely.Find a used copy and spread the word. A rarity like this adds some nice variety to a great music collection.

Nice concept, songs not so great,
By Yeoh Oon Oon (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) - See all my reviews

This is an unusual tribute album 'cos it doesn't feature any Elvis songs. Rather, it contains songs by artists who were fans of the King (backed by Elvis's old band, of course). I like the concept but the songs could've been better. Only a handful are really catchy.Best cut: "Deuce And A Quarter" by Keith Richards & The Band. Other notable tracks: "Soulmates" by Ronnie McDowell (a real Elvis soundalike) and "Strange Love" by Joe Louis Walker. Other songs are not that great.
