The alphabetical poetry of Howard Schrager is nicely showcased by the illustrations of Bruce Bischof in L M N O P and All the Letters A to Z, an engaging and original alphabet book for beginning readers. Each letter of the alphabet is featured with a warm color illustration and a unique, catchy, alliterate poem perfect for reading aloud. Some suggested means for using L M N O P and All the Letters A to Z for teaching young people are presented in a thoughtful forward. "B is in bowl, bag, basket, and bin,/All manner of places/To keep berries in./A brawny brown bear/Called Big Belly/Beholds a bee buzzing;/Oh our busy B." Highly recommended for school and community library ABC book collections for beginning readers.

I bought this to help with my daughter's formal introduction to the Alphabet, in anticipation of her starting a fairly structured and typical Kindergarten. I am so glad I did. The poems are a beautiful way to help children become acquainted with letters in a way that gives immediate meaning, rather than being just the abstract forms we recognize them to be. Her favorite was the "L" poem, but she quickly learned all of them, and I know it was nice for her to be able to draw on this memory when the letters were then introduced in school. It is a nice antidote to the typical trace-and-memorize books for learning letters. The illustrations are calm, warm, and lovely.

This book has beautiful language and pictures. The poems and images can definately help a child learn and live into the sounds of the letters of the alphabet.

wonderful art. great verses. a lovely way to go oveer the ABC's with your kids. all the "hidden" things inside each picture. plus if you don't know what something is, there is a list in the back.

My children love this book, they ask me to read it to them at nighttime a lot. It is definitely worth having as a learning resource or just a good book to read.

I like the illustrations and the rhymes for each letter are full of initial letter sounds. This is a great book to help students connect letter sounds to symbols. I also like how the illustrations show the letters in natural environments.
One thing I noticed is that the book has 9 letters that deal with knights, dragons, castles, and other such medieval-type issues. This is not a fault, but not what I expected when I saw the bear for letter B on websites that promoted this book.
All in all, I think this book will be great for helping my students grasp letter formations and sounds!
