Easy to under-estimate, hard to forget!,
This review is from: All Likkered Up (Audio CD)
Take one look at the titles of these songs--"Butt Ugly Slut", "Gone Back to Whorin'," and "Fryin' Bacon Nekkid," to name a few--and you think: Okay, a novelty CD, with some good laughs, nothin' more. If that's what you're after, then go ahead and buy this CD--you'll get a lot of laughts. AND if you're lookin' for somethin' more, buy this album as well--because, well, it's not ALL laughs.
Try not to cry when Wade picks and sings "Johnny Cash Has Died." The Kristofferson-esque poetry of "She's a Baby When She Cries" and "Sweet Wine of Sorrow" make these two tunes instant-classics. Even "Horse I Wanna Ride" is a tribute to the days of old, and what makes a man (and a horse). But, ok, you're probably mostly interested in the novelty side of the album. And it's hard to ignore--not that you'd want to. "Gone Back To Whorin'" and "All Likkered Up" have laugh-out-loud moments...but so do most of these songs; it'd be shame to just select a handful, because they're all worth of mentioning. ALL LIKKERED UP is a hilarious, moving, thoughful, intelligent, stupid, ENJOYABLE album. Roger Alan Wade, through brilliant songwriting and a whiskey-tinged voice, has crafted an album where a children's song of living life ("Chicken Song") can be played alongside a classic tale of murder and justice ("Knoxville Girl"). These are songs of liquor, lust, death, redemption, bacon, chickens, horses, female anatomy, and probably some more liquor. Yeah, lots of liquor.

My newly ordered cd was waiting for me when I came home from work today. And let me tell you, it is going in my cd player at home, in my truck, and I am making a copy to keep at work.
Without a doubt this is one of the most honest and refreshing recordings I have ever heard. Just Roger with a guitar = real DIY, low-fi, etc. And the songwriting is excellent also, in addition to being a pretty good guitarist. File this under Sad, Drinking Music, Drinking Alone Music, and Humor.

Roger Alan Wade is not the greatest country picker, or singer, to fall off the turnip truck, but this is one funny record. The reason I bought this is because I had heard a couple of his tunes on [...] - quite by chance. I was not disappointed. This has quickly become a favorite around the poker table, and at hunting camp.
This is not really going to tickle the funny bone of many women, and shouldn't be played for the kiddies, either, as it can get pretty raunchy. If you like music that would make a PG-13 version of Hee-Haw!, then this is the record for you.

You don't need to like honkey tonk to appreciate this!,
This review is from: All Likkered Up (Audio CD)
This album is great from start to finish. The witty lyrics and the "come as you are" attitude are melded together perfectly. It is raw, funny, at times a bit serious...but one thing is certain, after listening to it a couple times, the songs stick with you for weeks. I really liked this album and the companion DVD showing the behind the scenes making of the album from Johnny Knoxville's living room. Very cool!

With such songs as put another log on the fire, big ugly slut, bb gun song, and my neices personal favorite the chicken song, this cd will not let you down! I have never laughed as hard as when i first listened to this cd.
As a song writer, Mr. Wade is a genious, but as a singer, oh lordy, amazing. His lyrics will just make you laugh, cry and ask yourself, did he really say that? Yes, he really did say that. It's a little bit country and blue grass, but dont let that stop you from buying it. But it for the laughter, the tears, the wet pants, heck buy it cause you can hear johnny knoxville singing in the background. JUST BUY IT!

My husband purchased this CD after we had heard bits of it on the radio. It is hilarious. We had a good time listening to it and sharing with friends while we barbecued and enjoyed a few cold ones. Just remember that the content is not suitable for children.

If you liked David Allan Coe's "18 X-Rated Hits", then you will
love this one. Roger Alan Wade brought the track(s) "Poontang" and "BB Gun" to The Howard Stern show a few years ago, and it was a hit! The lyrical rymes with the Bluegrass sound is hilarious! |
