This comprehensive chronological discography of the studio and live recordings of Louis Armstrong (1901-1071)—only the second on the jazz great—lists solo and group recordings from 1923, beginning with King Oliver's Jazz Band, to his own bands and in shows up to 1971. The detailed entries list artists, bands, shows, or films the recording is associated with, as well as locations, personnel, instrumentation, tune titles, master or take numbers, commercial releases of that song, and relevant notes. Indexes are by tune title and individual. The volume includes a guide to the Armstrong bands, showing personnel and personnel changes from 1935-1971. (Reference and Research Book News, August 2006 )
