Eyes Wide Shut,
By Cate Garrison "author, OF MUTTS AND MEN, MIRA... (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All Men Are Cremated Equal: My 77 Blind Dates (Paperback)
Elizabeth Fournier is a motorcycling, ball-room dancing, beer drinking mortician who decides to go on 77 blind dates; if that isn't a formula for success, I don't know what is. And, believe me, this page-turning, hilarious yet thought-provoking book lives up to the promises of its premises. Elizabeth's imagery is alive and glorious; her dialog pops off the page; the pictures she creates shout aloud with color. In particular, the thumbnail sketches of the guys she dates are telling and resonant. We recognize these jerks; nay, we have dated them, if not blindly, then certainly (in my case) with our eyes closed. And her central character (herself) is beautifully drawn, quirky, half-vulnerable, half-brimming with confidence, at all times both totally empathetic and yet refreshingly unexpected. Buy this book for your girlfriends (and boyfriends) for Christmas, and they will forever be grateful.

Dating Extravaganza,

This review is from: All Men Are Cremated Equal: My 77 Blind Dates (Paperback)
All Men Are Cremated Equal is as quirky and unique as its title evokes. It is the tireless journey of a thirty something woman determined to find love on the dating circuit with some strict rules and standards.
I read it as a newly single woman in my thirties, ok just turned forty, and it was fun to see what someone else went through to find the right man. The variety and comical encounters made me laugh out loud. The spunk, intelligence, and beauty of the author came out readily. That this is a true story, made it all the better.

Elizabeth Fournier takes us through a journey of the peaks and valleys of dating. With her hilarious and detailed way of protraying these men and herself you feel you are walking through these dates with her. I laughed and cryed all the way through it and I could not put this book down.
I am extremely excited to read any other books that Fournier may write!

Elizabeth has created such an outstanding review of this phase of life that I am giving it to my age appropriate grandchildren. They will enormously benefit from this pragmatic sensible hilarious how to book; as they experience their own journey finding their soulmate.

I recently finished this book and really enjoyed it (and, I have to say, I am very excited to try Alka-Seltzer in the toilet bowl). As a 37 year-old woman who has navigated the dating world for what (sometimes) feels like a few hundred years, I found it very heartwarming and inspiring.

I recommended this book to friends and even loaned mine out. This is a true story about a woman who valued her self worth. She wanted to get married, but not just to be married. She set standards that more men and women should consider when dating. Too many couples will begin compromising on their first date and look away from eachother's faults. The author did not do that. She held her ground for 77 dates and kept her sense of humor. It's an easy read, very funny, and there's something we can all relate to from our own dating experience.

L. LaSene,
This review is from: All Men Are Cremated Equal: My 77 Blind Dates (Paperback)
Amazing funny and entertaining. She shared the good, bad and even the ugly dating stories during her journey to find her soulmate. I laughed so hard at times that I cried. I think most women have similar stories during their dating years however, she had the courage to share them with the rest of the world. Bravo girl!

Elizabeth Fournier's book about 77 blind dates is great not just in its concept and telling, but great because of the story teller. She's an unusual girl who bakes potatoes in the engine compartment of her jeep while on the road, loves the theme song from Chico and the Man (yet had one of her blind dates criticize her list of her top ten songs of all time for being cliche), is beautiful and witty and isn't ashamed of putting it out there that she wants to find love.
A very enjoyable, funny, uplifting read. |
