Biography

"With great power comes great responsibility." Surely a meaningful quote, but who can take credit for it? Thomas Jefferson? Sigmund Freud? Socrates? Nope. Spider-Man. It goes to show how something sort of profound can spring from an unlikely source. Any reluctant underachiever can make a difference: nerdy dude who gets bit by a mutant spider or awkward bipolar kid in a vaguely ... Read more in Amazon's Say Anything Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best Songs Ever Recorded February 7, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
I, like many other long-time Say Anything fans, have been waiting years for an official release of Baseball, Menorah Mejora, Junior Varsity, and Doormroom Demos, what many consider to be some of the prolific song-writer/lyrical mad genius Max Bemis' best releases. Now that it is finally out after all this time, the question hanging on SA fans' lips is "Was it worth the wait?", especially with the songs all available online to listen to all the while?

The answer is a resounding YES!! This is by far the album that I am proud to say that I own of all the CD's I have collected over the years. Having pre-ordered the album I also received a Say Anything t-shirt and an autograph from Bem-Dawg himself (all for under $35! Less than a t-shirt alone at a concert venue!). Even without these bonuses to the package, All My Friends Are Enemies includes three discs of pure unadulterated teenage angst that I will dissect by CD.

Disc 1: Baseball

This is my personal favorite album of all time to listen to when I'm in "one of those moods," if not my favorite of all time. I have been absolutely enamored by this album since I first heard the first track, "Colorblind" years ago. "Showdown at P-Town" is one of the most relatable high school anthems ever recorded. "Into the Night" is as empowering as it is heartbreaking. And the album doesn't let up until it's final track "Where the Hurt Is", which has a few minutes of silence before the masterful piano piece "All Choked Up", recorded on a master piano by Bemis in one take! This CD alone would have been worth purchasing for the price of the CD for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Anything Max Bemis touches is gold" January 26, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
As a friend once said "Anything Max Bemis touches is gold" Rings true from day one. Great album. Great Band (Period) whether this be the latter, middle, or "Early Rarities"

I am writing the review first off as a truly biased fan. With that said, This album has been long awaited. How long? Longer than the last 3 studio albums. As soon as the realase of "Was a real boy/ Is.." fans soon found that finding a legal place to get these songs was hard.

This release its self has 45 tracks on it. Brimming with the raw angst and unique song writing of Say Anythings brain child Max Bemis. This early listen into the band is sure to give you some new favorite songs. That is, if you have not been listing to all of them online on youtube like me forever. Either way a buy and keep in my book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Diamond in the Rough, but still amazing! May 17, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
When I discovered that Say Anything was releasing their early albums, I was absolutely ecstatic! I never got around to hearing their earliest stuff, I discovered the band with ...Is A Real Boy. This album blew away all of my expectations! Their sound is rough, but still so amazing. Max Bemis is a wordsmith and it definitely shows even in the beginning. Getting 3 albums worth of music at a great price is just great. I'm gonna go and listen to this album again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing May 23, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Ever since I bought this compilation- both Baseball and Menorah Majorah have not left my CD changer. I especially like MackDaddy and tracks 11-15 on Baseball. I simply LOVE "A Walk Through Hell" on Menorah. These tracks are so catchy and just show how much of a genius Max is. For about $20.00 this collection is a bargain. Baseball was highly limited in it's original release (only about 300 copies) so it's nice that they finally released this set to Say Anything's adoring fans who have long awaited to own copies of their older albums. Buy it without a second thought and be amazed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I wanted April 17, 2013

This album is everything I've wanted from Say Anything for a while. Remastered Baseball is worth the entry fee alone, the rest is just gravy. Sweet, delicious gravy.
