This review is from: All of My Friends (Audio CD)
I have to agree with a previous reviewer. This is a terrific CD. My favorite song is "Star," which incorporates hip hop beat with some almost Who-like guitar chording and banjo (!) . The lyrics are wonderful, blending the biblical with the personal, arriving at a synthesis that brings tears to the eyes. Every day, as I work on my new novel, I use it to inspire me to begin, and as a benediction to close out the day. Anything that can cure writer's block gets double five points in my book.
No writer or musician should be without this one. It works on so many levels. His voice is warm and affecting, with really intelligent phrasing. Playing is great. Sampling is great. The writing is some of the most engaging rediscovery of pop music since '77, which was, arguably, the last time we had a real revolution in pop. Hip hop, of course, was a different and wonderful revolution in its own right. This record brings together both strands in a manner that honors and advances.
This guy is the real deal: authentic, passionate, intelligent, original and most of all, fun, fun, fun. Buy it please. Keep legitimate art alive.

Uplifting, Odd and Endearing Folk Hip Hop, December 12, 2005
This review is from: All of My Friends (Audio CD)
Yes, I meant it. Goat writes heart-felt music that makes you want to move, has a modern sound. Oh and it may have banjo and a little slide guitar too. I was turned on to this CD after hearing a couple of the tunes on XM radio. His songs are largely positive pieces. The title song, "All of My Friends," is such a happy, toe tapping tune that you'll have a hard time holding still. "Star" has been mentioned, and is a great song, and I also loved "Angel," another song about "love that I would die for, I would do anything." There are some other good songs, an accoustic version of "Star," and the albums ends with a revisiting of the song for which Goat is most recognized, "Great Life" (from his first album) which was featured on the TV Kia Sportage commercial.
I hope Goat is having a "great life" with "all of [his] friends." He's brought a smile to my life with his affirmative music.
Trivia: He says he got the name from his dad when he was a little kid stuck in a goat pen and the goats kept knocking him down into the manure.

A great surprise, July 28, 2005
This review is from: All of My Friends (Audio CD)
I found this album as an advance review and it's been in constant play at my office (and in my car) since. The best songs are "All of My Friends" and of course, "Great Life", but the whole album is the best thing that's happened to summer since "Low Rider".
