Good if you're a big fan of house and trance music,
By Clay DeSilva (Pacifica, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All My Life (Audio CD)
For anyone that is looking for songs that are in the same range as "Do You Miss Me" or "A Little Bit of Ecstacy", you won't find it on this album. Jocelyn decided to go towards more of a mainstream House sound with all of her Dance tracks (a la Amber) this time around. While I'm not much a fan of house music, all the tracks on this album are solid. Here is a run-down of what I thought about "All My Life".1) All My Life- This song comes in sounding similiar to Paulina Rubio's "Don't Say Goodbye" but I don't know, I kind of get lost towards the middle. 2) No Way No How- This song is also House, but with more of a trancey feel. I like the verses of this song a lot better than I do the chorus. The mood changes from a nice somber feel, which I like, into a kind of exaggerated happy mood which I don't. 3) It's No Wonder- This song is probably the bounciest song on the album. It's fun and bubbly. Catchy. The production reminds me of Donna Lewis' stuff. Cute and very happy sounding. 4) Miracles- Typical Jocelyn ballad. Sounds very Pop. The melody is cool and the harmonies bring a nice depth. It's pretty and the production sounds clean. 5) Take My Hand- Energetic Disco House track. This is a track that I like a lot. This track has a fun melody and it's very strong. I'm betting this will be a favorite in the clubs. 6) Your Touch- This song has elements of Trance and House and for some reason also has a Disco feel. This is another one of my favorites. The music is very unique and its another strong club track. 7) Make Me An Angel- I can picture this song on the radio. It's very similiar to the Trance music you hear nowadays. Another good track. 8) Why- Another Trancey song that could do good on radio. 9) You Alone- A Pop sounding ballad with an R&B influence 10) Walking In the Rain- Cool intro. The melody sounds similiar to Brenda K. Starr & George Lamond's "No Matter What" but with a house beat. 11) No Way No How (JJ Flores Remix)- This song isn't really one of my favorites so I don't have anything more constructive to say about it. 12) Faith, Hope, and Prayer- This song has a cool message but it's a little too slow for me. The cool thing, though, if you like this type of music is that they have a choir singing along.

Fantastic Work from Jocelyn,

It has been a while since we all last heard from Jocelyn, but she is back and in top form! Her vocal stylings have certainly improved. The combination of her vocals and good song production brings such ear candy. The album boasts plenty of danceable hook driven songs ( All my Life, No Way No How), plus emotional, moving ballads. Very well produced. Great layering of beats and vocals. Artwork inside and outside is lame though. The cover is a dissapointment but the music isn't.

i've been a fan of jocelyn's since her lovely album came out back in the day. with this new album, she has a brand new sound... aimed more towards the clubs. her previous two albums were amazing. this album is also great, but in a different way. this album contains no freestlye whatsoever, but it has lots of great dance music and some nice ballads. standout tracks include All My Life, No Way No How, Walking In The Rain, Why, Faith, Hope and Prayer, and Your Touch. if you like dance music and Jocelyn, u should definitely get this album. good album... glad Jocelyn is back!

SHE'S DEFINITLEY DONE IT AGAIN!,

Being a fan of jocelyn's music since her first single "I've been thinking about you" and seeing her progress into the dance genre of music, I anticipated the release of "ALL MY LIFE" since i learned about it from her website. Well, i must say that she has definitley done it again! For those out there that surely enjoy PURE DANCE MUSIC, this album is a MUST! You'll definitley enjoy every track on this album from track 1(all my life) to track 12 (faith hope and prayer). Her voice is angelic on tracks working w/ AL B RICH & JJ FLORES i.e. As previously said, this album is a MUST! Though its been pretty quiet for her since the release of #1 billboard dance single "WHEN I GET CLOSE 2 YOU) and the funky "SO FABULOUS, SO FIERCE", this album and her long awaited comeback DEFNITLEY make up for it!

A New Enriquez with a Somewhat Borrowed Style,
By A Customer
This review is from: All My Life (Audio CD)
I have listened to about every album she has produced in the early 90s and this album sounds kind of like a labored effort. Maybe it's because the melodies don't really stand out and nothing sticks at the end. I can't help to think that her voice now is somewhat reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez. Just glad I still have some past memories of Jocelyn's style and vibrance. Still it's good to see her still making music. :)

I just recently got into Jocelyn through Amazon's "...people who bought this also bought this..." This is the 3rd JE CD I purchased. I just love her vocals, high energy music perfect for the club or working out. The technicians and mixers did an excellent job!...techno, rave, club, house, disco, futuristic space sounds, laser-beam blasts...whatever!:) I've been booming her CDs in my car every day. Wish I knew of her years ago.

Jocelyn has made a great comeback with her 3rd album "All My Life". I bought my copy back in March, and its been playing steadily in my boombox. Jocelyn's voice has matured so much. Its more stronger and breathy, and she also wrote some of the songs. She has her own record label, JEM which distributes the album, and it is well produced. The opening track "All My Life" is a catchy dance tune written by DJ Sammy (Heaven). Another favorite of mine is the hot pop track "Make Me An Angel"... it would definitely do great on the radio.Jocelyn's vocals shine on the last track "Faith, Hope, & Prayer". With truthful words, and Jocelyn's voice, the song is definitely a hit. The message it sends out is wonderful. I give this album a 5 out of 5 stars. Go buy it!!

I just recently purchased 'All My Life' and love it. I have been a fan of Jocelyn for many years, since her first album released in the Bay Area in '94. I like all the songs from the dance mixes to her ballads, this is a cd that I am going to listen to over and over again. I think the best song on this album is the ballad 'Miracles' Very powerful! I recommend this album to everyone.

I've been a huge fan of Jocelyn since 1997. Certainly this album is good, passable dance pop; but, it lacks the charm and catchiness of Jocelyn and 1994's Lovely. Jocelyn has a beautiful voice, as represented by ballads like Even If from 1997's Jocelyn, but here she seems rather overproduced and her voice and delivery, rather mechanical. The lead single, No Way No How, and its lukewarm reception is unfortunate considering the blazing success of the #1 2000 hit When I Get Close To You, but listen to the two and see the differences. I heard No Way No How at a restaurant and it just kind of blended in with the background. That happens over and over again when listning to the tracks and at the end, nothing really sticks in your head. On this album, Jocelyn does her best Amber impression (but lacking Amber's razor sharp edge and wit), but Jocelyn doesn't do Jocelyn like we're used to. While it's good to grow and change, there aren't a lot of hooks on this album. The title track is nice, but sounds similar to the forgetable lead single. Make Me An Angel is the hottest song on this album (and I think that it should have been the lead single) but in a ranking of Jocelyn's songs, it would only be my 6th or 7th favorite. I was certainly excited at the dance direction she was taking with the single When I Get Close To You, but where that track was bold and sounded different, these all try too hard to please, and in their effort to please everyone from pop to dance to adult contemporary, she loses something special that her first two albums had. But, while her effort disapoints a long time fan, it is a good album and certainly better than 90% of what's out there. It's too bad that Jocelyn doesn't have material that is up to her talent.

Mediocre turnout for something long awaited,

As a huge Jocelyn fan, I've had her website bookmarked on my Internet browser for years, and there were hardly any news or updates. During that period which she was absent from the music scene, I was hoping that something REALLY extraordinary was in the making, something monumental that would break the mould of a typical dance diva. Then I heard about 'All My Life' coming out on Feb 11 and preordered a copy immediately. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what kind of new material would be on the album. Then I got the album, started listening to all the tracks. I was a little disappointed. With three full length albums and 10 years in the music business under her belt, I was expecting something a little more personal and from the heart, with depth and solidity in the songwriting. Instead, many of the songs (lyrics and production) sound too A&R driven, and has a lackluster quality unlike previous album 'Jocelyn.' Although it's nice that she has managed to stay true to her freestyle roots, why not show a little diversity and evolve as a musician? The hit single 'No Way No How' has some potential, but the production could be eons better. Other potential hits include 'Why', 'All My Life', and 'Make Me an Angel', but nothing that would crossover into Top 40 or mainstream radio. I really wish that another Tagalog ballad like 'Kailanman' would have been on this one- in my opinion, that's her best ballad in her entire career. Bottom line, very average for something so long awaited. This artist has a lot of potential, but not enough public appeal. It would be a good idea for Jocelyn to either collaborate with some different songwriters or she should write her own material, because this effort SHOULD HAVE been better! |
