Book Description

A beautifully illustrated children s/inspirational book for ages 3 to 103. It uses the theme of the six major continents, endangered species and vanishing cultures to illustrate this heartfelt poem prayer for peace and responsible earth stewardship. A transparency of an Indian/male face overlaying a transparency of a Caucasian/female face gives a dramatic and powerful impact to its grand finale, I cannot claim on tribe or race But see myself in every face. So, warrior put your heart at ease, For I am you, and you area me.

ALL MY RELATIONS, A PRAYER Written, illustrated and published By L.T. Sparrow All My Relations is a wonderfully written book, beautifully illustrated and readable to young as well as old. The poem encompasses the philosophy that I am you, and you are me . Through the variety of continents, people, animals, rocks and trees a single common thread is woven, tying you, me and all that is together. This oft-shared vision is so well done in this book because the author s vibrantly colored, but soft feeling illustrations link all the represented objects in such a way that it would feel like something were missing if that one object were not there. When I read this book to my daughter, she said yuck to the creepers . We are going through a yucky bug phase, and everything that resembles a bug is persona non grata in her world. But it gave me a chance to talk about how even the bugs are part of the long chain of links that knit our world together. The culmination of this series of links is the cover illustration, shown in full on one of the inside pages, which shows all the concentric circles of links, trees, people, creepers, swimmers, animals, birds, the standing stones, what was, what is, and what shall be. My first thought was what a lovely poster this would make, and I was glad to find mention of her illustrations available as cards and prints. One of the pages has a very special transparency of Geronimo, on one side, and the author on the other. When placed on top of one another, it makes one face. A blend of Male and Female, Old and Young, Caucasian and Native American, Is and Was. It is very special, the whole book is special, and has a special message. Albeit a simple one, but still one we have yet to grasp. I think this would be a terrific addition to your home library; it would also make a meaningful and beautiful gift. I really liked reading this, not just to my daughter, but also to myself. The poetic wording, the illustrations, all made it rather meditative to read, and it genuinely provokes a meditative thoughtfulness of who we are in this great vast linkage. Very nice! Worth obtaining. --Awareness Magazine

This is just a small passage from this beautiful book, each page a full color painting that is Sparrow's creation as she takes you on a journey of Heart and honor. --Awareness Magazine

All My Relations is an ambitious and unique offering from L. T. Sparrow, an artist and poet who spent parts of her childhood with missionary parents in Bolivian jungles. The stated purpose of the book is to share her belief that our paths as human being all lead to the same place and we are all part of a greater unity or whole. The book s text is an eloquent poem by Sparrow that speaks of seeing ourselves in all creatures rather than claiming one tribe or species. The illustrations, also by Sparrow, are vivid and appealing, portraying people and animals in natural settings praying dancing howling flying, swimming, and uniting in dance. The book ends with tow innovative images on transparencies; two very different faces, including one of Sparrow herself, can be overlapped to create one complex visage, illustrating Sparrow s message of human unity, for I am you... and you are me. The book will appeal to everyone - children, adults, spiritual seekers, and teachers. Cards and prints of many of the book s illustrations are available separately from L. T. Sparrow. I suggest featuring All My Relations with these related sidelines alongside other book and gift products with multicultural themes. This review is from: All My Relations: A Prayer (Hardcover)
Ms. Sparrow's vibrant, detailed artwork expands her poetry to create a prayer for all things. The art can be studied for the beauty of the whole image or for the tiny details that show the diversity of life. The theme of the relationships between all things is vividly portrayed with the layered images of the warrior and the woman using clear pages so both images become one. "Sisters, brothers, all are we / Rejoicing in equality." This book will be enjoyed by both children and adults, as well as people of different religions and cultures.
