This review is from: All the Myriad Ways (Kindle Edition)
The stories are great (I first bought this in paperback over 30 years ago) but, as is often the case with older books newly released on Kindle, the proofreading and format checking seem not to extend beyond the free sample; extra/missing line breaks, extra hyphens, and uncorrected OCR errors are jarring. One essay alone ("The Theory and Practice of Teleportation") has "denned" for "defined"; "Alfred Hester" for "Alfred Bester"; "Foul" for "Poul" (as in Anderson); and others. If Sheckley hadn't already taken it, a better title would be "Untouched by Human Hands".
What a disappointment after such a wait. (In the desktop Kindle app, the book is displayed in sans-serif fonts, making every page an eyesore. Fortunately the Kindle devices seem to ignore this "feature.") |
