Jackie Newgent, RD, CDN, is a chef, registered dietitian, award-winning cookbook author, and media personality.
Jackie is the author of the media-acclaimed Big Green Cookbook (Wiley, 2009). She's also author of The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook (American Diabetes Association, 2007) which was awarded the Best Health and Nutrition Book in the World by Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2007. Stay tuned ... her next cookbook, 1,000 Low-Calorie Recipes (Wiley, 2012), hits shelves and e-readers next fall! It features great-tasting "real" cuisine under 500 calories.
She appears frequently as a health, eco-cuisine, and culinary nutrition expert on television and radio. Jackie is regularly invited to speak and provide culinary demonstrations at professional meetings and consumer events, including the International Association of Culinary Professional's Annual International Conference, American Dietetic Association's (ADA) Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo, and Go Green Expo. As a spokesperson for the food industry, she's commonly spotted throughout the country via satellite media tours. She's a recreational chef instructor with the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City where she has been teaching hands-on cooking classes for over a decade. Jackie's popular courses include Superfoods, Cooking for Fitness, and All-Natural Cooking with Jackie Newgent. She's a consultant for "Healthy Children Healthy Futures," a national after-school nutrition and fitness program targeted to city kids and parents. For the program, she wrote A Parent's Guide to Healthy Eating and Physical Activity.
Jackie received her B.S. in Allied Health Professions from The Ohio State University and Certificate in Professional Cooking from Kendall College. Her favorite hobbies include hiking, traveling, shopping, hosting parties, exploring New York for the most intriguing cocktails and tastiest hidden food finds, and, of course, experimenting with recipes in her Brooklyn kitchen.
