"All you need is love" is a bonbon of a compilation to support the worthy cause of combating HIV/AIDS in Africa with Project RED. It opens with an ensemble of global musicians, Playing for Change, singing the Beatles' "All you need is love." U2 combines Prokofiev with holiday sentiments in "I believe in Father Christmas." It's a subtle,bittersweet song that actually works. Bono sings with sincerity. The Dave Matthews Band's acoustic version of their song "You and Me" is more of a thoughtful lullaby than the whiny version heard on Top 40 radio. It closes with John Legend's soulful cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." "All you need is love" is tantalizingly delightful--it's only 15 minutes long. Other albums that have contributed to Project RED thanks to Starbucks are: World Is Africa and U2's latest: No Line On The Horizon One can also buy this spicy,sweet African coffee to contribute to this worthy cause in this season of giving: Starbucks From Africa To Africa Red, Brown Spice and Citrus, Ground Cofee, 12 oz. bag

Yet another amazing rendition of worldly appeal kind of music. Yet, for dear life of me, I cannot fathom how come Starbucks and the Movement settled for only four tracks. John Legend gave "Redemption Song" his best shot, though not as heart-felt as in Herbie Hancock's IMAGINE PROJECT's "Don't Give Up" (of Peter Gabriel's fame) where he really redeemed himself well. The rendition of the eponymous title track wasn't bad either. It is just that four songs felt like they could have done a lot more better as in the tradition of Playing for Change. I am sure they had more material than enough. I begrudgingly give this semi-album a gripy 5 out of 5, purely for musical quality. A fantastic rare treat, albeit stingy.
