Book Description

All City Series November 1997
This is a treasure-hunter's guide to the city of New York, showing where to find items of beauty and elegance. It lists the locations of antiques and art, frames and fabrics, porcelain and silver, linen and furnishing fabrics and other decorative objects, with full details of shops and galleries. For those looking for items such as icons, maps, books, glass, leather, mosaics, marble, parquet and stained glass, the book lists dealers, manufacturers, design centres and flea markets, and includes the addresses, telephone numbers, hours and specialities of over 5000 shops, galleries and artisans. It should act as a useful resource for decorators, architects and the ordinary treasure-hunter.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Shopping for the home can be a daunting task, especially in New York City. The Lowns (Tout Paris, Palancar, 1994) offer a guide to the Big Apple's " 'things' of beauty and comfort." Their book is quite thorough in most respects and offers a plethora of information on shops, galleries, flea markets, antique dealers, and the like. Each entry features the establishment's address, telephone number, hours, languages spoken, and a short description of what it has to offer. Divided into sections, the book describes where to find such items and services as decorative hardware, antique kitchenware, "experts in scenic wallpaper installation," and antique textile conservation. The flea market section merely covers the Chelsea area. For people doing specialized redecoration, this book will be invaluable. However, the average homeowner may not find it helpful. Recommended for public libraries in and around New York City, as well as specialized collections.?Melisa Fiumara, North Tonawanda P.L., N.Y.

5.0 out of 5 stars great source book, June 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: All New York: The Source Guide (All City Series) (Hardcover)
I first bought this book after seeing it reviewed in an architure/interior decorating periodical. It contains valuable, accurate information, and I recommend it as a gift for a decorator, collector, or antique lover. I just ordered another copy, as I gave the first one to a friend who is an interior designer, and who also thinks the book is excellent. It's easy to use, and its information is extremely helpful if you are shopping in New York--it saves roaming aimlessly. I wish it came in paperback so it was easier to carry with you while shopping because it is so reliable.
