Editorial Reviews

All Night Long is the debut mix album from acclaimed DJ/production duo Layo & Bushwacka! Named after their monthly residency at London club The End, All Night Long combines all the elements of their sound – hip-hop, electro, breaks, deep house, early acid, funk, soul, techno.

Built with longevity in mind this DJ mix mines all genres and all eras for a startling reminder that contrary to what you may have heard – there is life in dance music yet.

Highlights include a rare early remix from an aspiring Danny Tenaglia (Dread Flimstone), Groove Armada unveiling their new house guise (Pyromaniac Gardeners), lost classics (Stasis, Newcleus), hot up-to-the-minute finds (Seelenluft, Clyde featuring Capitol A, Agoria), choice remixes from the duo themselves (Bebel Gilberto/, Depeche Mode, Orbital) and a series of exclusive Layo & Bushwacka! live edits (Fast Eddie, Sha Lor, Sly & The Family Stone).

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly outstanding - start with disc 2, May 4, 2004

Picked this up on a recent electronica expedition at Rasputin's and it was the last one I grabbed. It's an amazing layering of sounds that picks up right where Night Works, their previous release leaves off. Disc 1 is a bit more experimental, and does have some tracks with some vox on them, 'Special Place' has a killer funky intro and blends into some rap, 'Rock the Record' the next track, has some repititious vocals, and 'Jam on It' the track after that, is mostly pretty funny with some bizarre sped up vocals that sounds like MC Pokemon or some shenanigans, but when it hits, disc 1 is amazing. Orbital's "Funny Break" is typical Orbital, simply outstanding. Western Root's Scorpio Swift is a highpoint of disc 1, and lays down an incredibly smooth vibe.

Disc 2 is the gold in this set though, similar to Disc 1 of Tosca's Dehli9 release - it's the one to listen to. Disc 2 is almost all music, and surrounds you with a stunning layering of sound that is finding itself in reavy rotation in my car and at work. James Banitez' "Starchaser" is inspiring, and is a highpoint. The whole second disc though never lets up and Layo and Bushwacka! definitely showcase their skill with this set.

4/5 starts from me. Disc 1 is a bit more experimental, and hell *I* love it, but it is a bit uneven as a chill/techno/house CD as it showcases so many styles. Disc 2 is phenomenal, and I love it as much as my Sasha CD's, which is saying something as Sasha is the MAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Night Long Is Right!!!, February 28, 2004

This is a CD that you can pop in at a party and keep on all night. The disc flows very well with transitions between songs that keep everyone guessing what track its on. Though the discs play like one steady song because of the well mixed transitions, each song is very different from the next. Layo and Bushwacka mix jazz, hip hop, techno, psychedalia, and more (even spoken word poetry- Loveless). Its variety and seemless transitions are what makes this disc work so well. Play this at a party and you will get people dancing and socializing. People just can't help it. The music is energizing without being too aggressive and with enough variety that you won't get bored.

This dj set is something that you would hear at The End(Layo's great dance club), in London . After spending some time out there last year it was great being able to take some of this great music back with me. If you want a feel for what some of the London clubs are like, pick this disc up immediately. If you are into dancing and/or throwing kick ass parties, it is essential. Great music for whatever substance you are on :) Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Respecful enough that it gets the job done., May 2, 2008

I personally like this release of Layo and Bushwacka for its down tempo, not because it's the greatest release. I am respectful enough to have it in my collection. It starts off kind of slow on the first disc, but goes from being a break beat to full beat. I love these release for its down tempo. something Lay & Bushwacka do best. I can play this with Mark Farina. This is what I paid for.
