Biography

The American blues musician Muddy Waters was born McKinley Morganfield in Mississippi in 1913. His first recording was made for the Library of Congress who had sent famed folk music archivist Alan Lomax to the Southern States to record examples of blues songs. On hearing the record Waters realised that being a musician was an achievable dream and set his sights on a career in music. Waters moved… Read more in Amazon's Muddy Waters Store

Editorial Reviews

The postwar Chicago blues scene without the magnificent contributions of Muddy Waters is absolutely unimaginable. From the late ’40s to the time he passed away in 1983, he eloquently defined the city’s aggressive, swaggering, Delta-rooted sound with his declamatory vocals and piercing slide-guitar attack.
This is one of the best live collections of Muddy Waters ever assembled. His songs have been recorded by such artists as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Animals, Van Morrison, George Thorogood, and Canned Heat.
All Night Long Live! features such classics as "(I’m Your) Hoochie Coochie Man," "Rollin’ And Tumblin’," "Honey Bee," and "Got My Mojo Working."
This live collection features Muddy Waters at three distinct periods in his career: 1964, 1966 and the late 70s. His band from May 1964 and 1966-67 includes Otis Spann on piano. The late 70s recordings feature his regular touring band, including piano player Pinetop Perkins and drummer Willie "Big Eyes" Smith.

4.0 out of 5 stars Killer Live cuts by the MAN, January 4, 2006

This review is from: All Night Long: Live (Audio CD)
Lots of folks are called THE MAN in many arenas. In most cases it is laughable at best.

When it comes to blues Muddy is and always will be THE MAN. There at the roots in the share cropper days of the south (even if more to observe and soak in, than to actually toil in the fields, as has been hinted at). The deliverer of the rural blues to the north, within the industrial revolution driven, northern migration. Muddy led the transition to 'lectrification with those undeniable roots intact.

This is an excellent collection of Muddy with 3 of his better supporting configurations, in the setting always best suited to the blues, in front of a live crowd.

4 of 5 stars only given because it is not his definitive album. But it can easily stand among his best work.

ADDED BONUS>>>>The sound quality is surprizingly good.
