Some Great Bebop, May 28, 2001

This is the second volume of an all-night recording session by Hampton Hawes, Jim Hall, Red Mitchell, and Buzz Freeman. The quartet jams on several standards and bebop classics. Mr. Hawes stands out as an exceptional bebop pianist, with a crisp, controlled, swinging right hand line. His eighth-notes just flow along. Mr. Hall also shows his mastery of bop lines as well as the beautiful telepathy between him and Hawes. The rhythm section is very solid and offers some quality solos. Highly recommended.
