Colossal disappointment, July 4, 2002
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
Just far too many typo errors to list, so much so that the authors seemed to have confused themselves. One blatant example is the question 7 at the end of Chapter 1 - Which Internet consortium would you suggest a change or RFC for other board members to comment and vote on for standardizations?
a) IEEE b)IEFT c)IETF d)IEET
The correct answer should be c) (Internet Engineering Task Force)....and SURPRISE, SURPRISE, in the book, the correct answer is listed as b)IEFT!!
Besides shenanigans like this, the authors sometimes also got the full title of the acronyms wrong. All in all, the impression I got was that the authors tried to beat some unrealistic deadline in completing the book such that they did not bother to check or to proofread and had to scribble everything hurriedly while working through the night and losing sleep and concentration.
The greatest disappointment of all, however, is that the book actually contains very relevant material, and that the concepts are very well-illustrated and explained. However, after coming across so many typo errors, I had lost confidence in the acronyms and the definitions such that I had to double check everything from other sources just to make sure. In other words, this is a good enough book to learn something about the internet, but a next to worthless book for preparing for exams.
It was lucky that I happened to have bought this book for half-price! Caveat emptor.

Use a Different Book!, July 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
I am halfway through this book and felt compelled to write a review.
I bought this book because I found the All in One A+ book by Meyers to be of great value. However I am very disapointed in this book. Without even commenting on the content, there are so many typos and other mistakes that I have lost confidence in it. I get the distinct impression that this book was thrown together as quickly as possible. Any other study book would almost have to be better than this one.

Poorly written, even more poorly edited, July 10, 2000
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
I have had good luck with other "all in one exam guide" titles. But this one has turned me off to the series. First the author has poor orginizational skills. He starts talking about the OSI model in one chapter, but doesn't finish the tought untill another. There are errors of many types, some errors due to no research, some due to a light understanding of the subject material. The images in the book are missing importaint text and are useless. The included Virtual Study Group CD is a waste. It contains a HTML version of the same horribale text and no additional materials. It's sole purpose seems to be to distract the reader with a discussion link on every page. There was only one other person in my study group, and he must have died from reading the text because he never responded or participated. All and all this book was a complete waste of money. If you are looking to pass this exam please heed my advice and pass this up. To see the author's internet savy, just take a look at his companies web site
