5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me a Lot !
I have found the book to helpful in aiding me to pass the inet+ exam. The material needed for the test was covered -- more than I wanted to know sometimes - but thorough. I agree that some of the clipart was rough, but I have no other complaints about this book. I would recommend it to my friend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Colossal disappointment
Just far too many typo errors to list, so much so that the authors seemed to have confused themselves. One blatant example is the question 7 at the end of Chapter 1 - Which Internet consortium would you suggest a change or RFC for other board members to comment and vote on for standardizations?

a) IEEE b)IEFT c)IETF d)IEET

The correct answer should be c)...

The correct answer should be c) (Internet Engineering Task Force)....and SURPRISE, SURPRISE, in the book, the correct answer is listed as b)IEFT!!

Besides shenanigans like this, the authors sometimes also got the full title of the acronyms wrong. All in all, the impression I got was that the authors tried to beat some unrealistic deadline in completing the book such that they did not bother to check or to proofread and had to scribble everything hurriedly while working through the night and losing sleep and concentration.

The greatest disappointment of all, however, is that the book actually contains very relevant material, and that the concepts are very well-illustrated and explained. However, after coming across so many typo errors, I had lost confidence in the acronyms and the definitions such that I had to double check everything from other sources just to make sure. In other words, this is a good enough book to learn something about the internet, but a next to worthless book for preparing for exams.

It was lucky that I happened to have bought this book for half-price! Caveat emptor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Use a Different Book!, July 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
I am halfway through this book and felt compelled to write a review.

I bought this book because I found the All in One A+ book by Meyers to be of great value. However I am very disapointed in this book. Without even commenting on the content, there are so many typos and other mistakes that I have lost confidence in it. I get the distinct impression that this book was thrown together as quickly as possible. Any other study book would almost have to be better than this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, even more poorly edited, July 10, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
I have had good luck with other "all in one exam guide" titles. But this one has turned me off to the series. First the author has poor orginizational skills. He starts talking about the OSI model in one chapter, but doesn't finish the tought untill another. There are errors of many types, some errors due to no research, some due to a light understanding of the subject material. The images in the book are missing importaint text and are useless. The included Virtual Study Group CD is a waste. It contains a HTML version of the same horribale text and no additional materials. It's sole purpose seems to be to distract the reader with a discussion link on every page. There was only one other person in my study group, and he must have died from reading the text because he never responded or participated. All and all this book was a complete waste of money. If you are looking to pass this exam please heed my advice and pass this up. To see the author's internet savy, just take a look at his companies web site

3.0 out of 5 stars A good study supplement., July 2, 2000
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
This might be enough to pass the exam, but it was not enough for me. This book covers most of what is on the exam, but not all. I found some terms that were on the exam not even mentioned. Never reply on one source for exam prep unless you are certain you will pass. Hardcover is a nice feature. I will hang on to this book though and use it as a reference.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pass on this one, folks., August 4, 2000

Maybe a revised edition will be better. Hopefully they are going back through it right now and fixing the mistakes and making it readable and thinking things through a little better. You will lose confidence in this book quickly. Why should there be such disparity in reviews? It is no way a four or five star book. No way. I am very suspicious of those reviews. I sent my copy back and am searching for a different study guide that is better and I won't have to search long. This is a poorly and presumably hastily written book.

I must admmit that this book was:

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring!, August 25, 2000
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
This book is extremely boring and dry.. I could barely get past the first few chapters without falling asleep. Nothing is organized and there are bits of information just thrown together in paragraphs. The CD was a waste of time and nobody was ever in the study group.

2.0 out of 5 stars LET MIKE AND CO KEEP THE COMPTIA FRANCHISE, January 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
When I purchased this book it was based on the fact that I had previously purchased the other 2 EXCELLENT titles in the series(A+ & Net+). Expecting Mr Zeff to maintain the excellent precedent set by Mr Meyers & co, I was sorely DISAPPOINTED to discover that this book was nowhere near as good as the other 2.

Firstly, it is riddled with typos and in a few cases the solutions at the end do not have corresponding alphabets and answers eg. a) WRONG OPTION. Secondly Mr Zeff's tone in the book is a dry matter of fact one, as opposed to HAVE FUN WHILE YOU LEARN approach of Mr Meyers. Thirdly, some of the diagrams in the book are not even clear.

The BOOK WAS A CHORE to trudge through and prompted me to find an alternative source once I completed it as I was not satistied with the end result. Fortunately I enrolled with WAVE Technologies for their SELF-STUDY course and this IS WHAT PULLED ME through the exam.

NEXT TIME MC-GRAWHILL leave the Comptia exams to Mr Meyers & co

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer, Beware!, March 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: All-in-One i-Net+ Certification Exam Guide (Paperback)
Supposedly, this book contained a CD that allowed you to access and become part of an online study group, which is the main reason I bought the book. Forget it, I had problem logging into the server, requested help from the support staff, whose web site promises superlative tech support, and haven't heard from them for over a week. Still can't access my VIRTUAL STUDY GROUP, THAT THE BOOK'S COVER PROMISES. Too late for me, I am returning this book to my local bookseller, because the content leaves alot to be desired, also. Very dry, poorly organized, nothing like the All-In- One Network + Certification book by Mike Meyers, which is the best network book I have ever read. Mike, can you write an I-Net book for the hungry minds out there?
