This is a nice basic book that covers all the important details. It also includes leeks, garlic, and shallots. Whether from seed or sets, the "how to" is made simple. It also talks about latitude and zones. Might want to research yours to be able to apply the correct information.
I would not hesitate to suggest this booklet to anyone just starting.

Great little pamphlet! Lots of info on all different kinds of onions and garlic, and their culture. Well worth the money.
