5.0 out of 5 stars thoughtful, intelligent Christian music
It is kind of funny, reading some of the reviews of this album. The major complaints are that this album is not Conversations and also that Sara does not mention God or Jesus over and over again. My response to that would be that while Conversations is probably my favorite of Sara's albums, if I wanted to listen to Conversations...I'd just put in that cd and not hope...

3.0 out of 5 stars Conversations and Past the Wishing are better
I do not listen to "All Right Here" as often as "Conversations" and "Past The Wishing." The other CDs are more intelligent. I admire Sara's great ability to write music and lyrics, however, All Right Here does not have many catchy tunes or stories that go straight to the heart, like Conversations and Past the Wishing. The only song I really like on All Right Here, is You...

It is kind of funny, reading some of the reviews of this album. The major complaints are that this album is not Conversations and also that Sara does not mention God or Jesus over and over again. My response to that would be that while Conversations is probably my favorite of Sara's albums, if I wanted to listen to Conversations...I'd just put in that cd and not hope that the next album was the same as the last. I appreciate artistic growth. My response to the second is that sometimes we forget that not every word out of our mouths and not every thought that we have is about God. So, while Sara Groves is a Christian and a Christian artist, if every line of every song directly mentioned God....the songs would probably sound the same and Groves wouldn't have the talent that she does. A person can talk about God and about her walk with Christ without always directly mentioning God. Besides....the book of Esther does not mention God once....and Esther is in the Bible.

The hot single from this album is "First Song that I Sing". It is a catchy pop-ish song about how the first thing Sara will do every day is praise and worship and glorify God. It really hits home because I know this is something I'm failing at in my own life. My favorite two songs on the album are "Less Like Scars" (about how the wounds of Christ are less like scars and more like a victory and salvation) and "Maybe There Is A Loving God."

If this album is not quite as good as Conversations, it is very, very close. It is also a much better album than Sara's first album, Past the Wishing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Jewels, January 21, 2003

When I was deciding which Sara Groves album to buy, after sampling a few tracks of both on the Net, I felt myself leaning towards Conversations...it seemed more instantly classic.
However, I couldn't make up my mind so I went down to my local Koorong store (A big Christian bookstore in Sydney, Australia) and bought both of them!!!
I was glad I did because within two listens, All Right Here had stolen my heart as my favourite CD for some time now.
There's a joyousness in the album, something subtle that I can't quite put my finger on...that X factor which makes this album, while not as immediate as Conversations, ultimately the more rewarding of the two.
Maybe its because it features the best Christian praise song since Amy Grant sang her Praise to the Lord back in '82 (the homage to Rich Mullins on Sara's song really gets me jumping around the room) or maybe the impossibly catchy refrain of Maybe There's a Loving God...or perhaps its just the lyrics which I relate to with such personal conviction (esp. Less Like Scars and All Right Here).
Although I loved Conversations (Hello Lord is like a prayer written especially for me) All Right Here is a finer honing of her craft and a lesson in growth from a wise Christian.

Sara Groves' album is an example of what Christian music ought to be. Sincere, powerful, and with the talent to back it up. Too often anything with Christian lyrics is assumed to be OK, but Groves proves that you can be faithful and still be committed to good musicianship. Less Like Scars speaks volumes without recycling stale Christian cliches. Buy this one and see what you've been missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two great things from Minnesota: 2002 Twins and Sara, September 10, 2002

For those of you who have never sampled the music of Sara Groves, she is one of those artists that gets better and better the more you listen. As a profound lyricist, she speaks to her audience not collectively but to the individual. She puts in the simplest words what we all stuggle with in life: searching for answers, fear of dying, frustration, loss. Conversations was a great beginning, telling her Christian life through wonderfully poignant words notes.

Sara Groves has one-upped herself, speaking now of her entire life story. As wife, Fly is as good a love song as has been written in quite awhile. As friend, Every Minute is a wonderful testimony to true friends. As mother, You Cannot Lose My Love is as sweet a lullaby as could be sung to a child in your arms, as well as your child in his darkest hour. As seeking adult of today, Jesus, You're Beautiful is a great song of praise, and Maybe There's a Loving God is a great song of hope.

More lilt, more upbeat, more production. But through it all, Sara Groves takes her inspiration from those she claims have influenced her (Amy Grant and Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls are two that come to mind), as well as those that jump to mind when you hear her.

This is a must have for your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crossover Appeal, August 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: All Right Here (Audio CD)
Sara Groves is an outstanding singer-songwriter with the potential to appear not only on CCM charts, but on country, pop, and blues charts, as well. "All Right Here" is an ideal vehicle to showcase that crossover potential. It's all right here -- honest Christian lyrics, gentle love songs about husbands and children, and some county-blues complete with excellent dobro-esque backup. That's the good news and the bad news. Those looking for excellent music regardless of genre will delight in this CD. Those looking for more overtly Christian music, as in "Converstations", however, may well be a bit disappointed. Frankly, I am in the latter category; hence, the 4-star rating, though even now I'm having second thoughts -- she is just so good!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE SARA GROVES !, June 26, 2005

Erin "Water Fairy" (B.C., British Columbia) - See all my reviews

Sara Groves is by far one of the best singers I have ever listened to my whole life and this album goes to show just how
talented she really is. I wasn't even going to buy this CD,
but when I found: All Right Here I couldn't resist it. I solely
bought it for "Less Like Scars" and "All Right Here"- but the
rest of the CD is nothing short of amazement. There is not one
song I don't like...here's how I rate the songs:

Less Like Scars 8/10: A song with a lot of heart..
its edgy, and funky, it makes me want to dance.

Every Minute 10/10: The best song on the album,
this is sheer, emotional poetry-its so beautiful
that it makes me cry.

Fly 9/10: Another stunner-this song has some romance in it,
but its definitely not sappy..its one of the shorter songs-
and it is just that-short and sweet.

You Did That For Me 9/10: a song that is incredibly
spiritual, and powerful-its about being free and about
struggles- a whole lot of faith is wrapped in it.

Just One More Thing 9/10: a funky song that has a whole
lot of meaning-talking about relationships and love-
makes me never forget what is truly important in life.

All Right Here 10/10: a classic song that is highly
spiritual and carefree that makes me think of what life
is truly about...and it is definitely a dance song.

Remember Surrender 9/10: an incredibly moving song that
always warms my heart and puts a smile on my face.

Maybe There's A Loving God 10/10: another favorite of
mine, its a peaceful, very meaningful and philosophical
track that is so spiritual that it makes me question about
life and who I am.

This Peace: 8/10: a prevocative song that talks about
peace in the world- I wish it was a longer song but it
still moves me.

Tornado 7/10: Funky, powerful song that has an edge to it
that sometimes gets a little boring-the rythmn is the same
almost all the way through it. But its about forgiveness-
it definitely has a good message throughout it though.

First Song That I Sing 9/10: another funky song that gets
stuck in my head and in my heart. This song is more Christian
then most of the other ones, but its definitely a
rocking tune.

You Cannot Lose My Love 8/10: another one of my favorites,
but again I found it was a short song that deserved to be
longer then it was. But the emotional tone is still there,
Sara did a great job on this one that is for certain.

Jesus, You're Beautiful 9/10: an powerful ballad that like
"First Song That I Sing" has more Christian themes to it-
that make the song even more beautiful.

All Right Here is definitely the most emotional and
heart-tugging CD I have ever listend to it. Sara Groves
truly rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this album!, August 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: All Right Here (Audio CD)
The first time I listened to this album, I liked it. After about the third time through, when I had a chance to really take in all the lyrics, I loved it. Then I listened to it alone in the car, and I couldn't believe how much every song meant to me. It is like someone wrote down my life and put it on a CD. I have listened to this many, many times now, and I am still not tiring of it in the least.

The lyrics are outstanding, Sara Groves' voice is remarkable, the music is somewhat edgy at times and there is diversity in the style of the individual songs. I also have her album "Conversations", and I understand that many people think of that as her best work to date, but I have to say that I really, really like this one the best.

If you have ever had to learn hard lessons in life... ever wondered if God was still there for you... ever been frustrated that you couldn't get a grip on your time or that the freshness of your spirit was fading... if you have loved your kids through all the stages and hardships they have faced... if you have felt that you had to impress people with your "religiosity" -- this album will speak to your heart and possibly even bring tears to your eyes from time to time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Angelic!, June 19, 2003
By
This review is from: All Right Here (Audio CD)
ahhhhh..Sara Groves a true poet of the heart with a songbird voice - something unmatched by most christian artists. Like most of Sara's albums, it ALWAYS has depth and meaning for every song - like she's pouring her heart and soul out in front of you yet it's captured on a small compact disc. Some might argue that this Cd lacks spirtual insight, i coldheartedly disagree. Most of the songs are questioning faith and how the Lord guides her throughtout her journey. Such as ..."Maybe their is a Loving God", "This peace" and "Tornado" and of course, wrapping it up with a song calling Jesus - Beautiful. Sara you are soooo right. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Right Here is a great CD, November 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: All Right Here (Audio CD)
I enjoy all types of music but I especially like singer/songwriters that can tell stories within songs. 'Maybe there's a loving God' is a good example. This song, about a despondent individual questioning the meaning of life, starts simple and grows with additional layers of music and lyrics as the song progresses. The first few times I heard this song I was left with tears in my eyes. It still moves me when I hear it. Many of the songs in this CD address relationships (friends, spouse, child) and faith. Most are reflective and tend to be piano and guitar-based folk but the CD does have its share of uptempo songs. Sara is a talented artist and I look forward to more music from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars We would be friends, September 13, 2002
By
Tiff Halliday (San Jose, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Whenever I listen to Sara I'm struck with the firm belief that she and I would be friends given the right circumstances. She speaks to me as a mom, as a wife of more than just a few years, as a Christian who seeks thought provoking insights--not just white bread lyrics. On this CD a song made me weep for my long distance best friend, another brought forth images of my kids, another contained the exact words I would say to my husband if I myself were poetically inclined....and several were personally accurate as I directed the words to God. "All Right Here" again made me want to sit in a coffee shop and pick this fellow traveler's head.
