5.0 out of 5 stars toughtoughtough but fabulous
Collage rate this as intermediate/advanced. I am a regular exerciser - Stott Intermediate Pilates, yoga newbie, New York City Ballet workout, and some weights, recently. This was great, but very tough. I could hardly walk for the next 2 days - no kidding! You need to be in good shape to start doing this tape, otherwise cut down on all the reps all the way through, or you...

1.0 out of 5 stars be prepared to purchase props
I got this VHS because I am a dancer and wanted a dance conditioning video. I was very disappointed to find that not only do you need weights but you need a medicine ball and a bar to steady yourself. They say a chair would work but I disagree. If you already have these materials availabe it would be a great workout, but if your looking for simple? this isn't the one!

Collage rate this as intermediate/advanced. I am a regular exerciser - Stott Intermediate Pilates, yoga newbie, New York City Ballet workout, and some weights, recently. This was great, but very tough. I could hardly walk for the next 2 days - no kidding! You need to be in good shape to start doing this tape, otherwise cut down on all the reps all the way through, or you will regret it! And give your quads an extra stretch at the end because they get worked heavy duty. And make sure you really keep your pelvis tilted forward all the time in the standing ball exercises, otherwise you will only work your quads.

That said, it is unique. I love the mix, and it saves me time. I usually let my body tell me what it wants after a hard day's work - sometimes it wants an hour of Pilates, sometimes it wants Kripalu dynamic (yummy), sometimes it wants Stephanie Foster's Intermediate yoga with its nice mix of Pilates and brisk yoga stretches, and sometimes it wants Jennifer Kries' All in One Workout or Perfect Mix. Sometimes I can't make up my mind and have a high energy level and this is the tape for those days. The general concept is something like the last two mentioned but tougher! Imagine a mix of power yoga - advanced Pilates - a few targeted weights movements - and some VERY intense legwork - both standing and floor. By the end your behind is screaming. It feels like it works everywhere - to the limit - and at the same time leaves me stretched out like I've had a good yoga session. and my flexibility goes up every time I use it. I started off hardly touching my toes - now I can put my whole hand on the flooor - such a buzz!

So - only for toughies, no wussies need apply...... but graceful and yoga inspired also. Enjoy........

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of many worlds, and it hurts so GOOD, March 19, 2003

This review is from: All the Right Moves - Yoga, Pilates & Dance Conditioning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ow. Ow. Im still sore from doing this tape (and I've done it many times before. . ) but Im sore in all the right places. This tape, in many ways, is exactly what I've been looking for. I want the mind/body centering effects of yoga, but love the super-effective moves in Callanetics. I want to build muscle and work up a sweat, but I also want to be stretched and lengthened. I want to be challenged, but I don't want to feel frustrated and discouraged. This tape has it all, and its tough. It works each muscle group to failure, but at the end of it all you feel relaxed, energized and positive that you are getting a great return on your investment of an hour. Though Grace's form leaves something to be desired, and you should definitely understand the basics of Pilates and Yoga movement before you attempt this tape, it brings together a lot of very desireable elements for a mix-and-match excerciser like myself. And gosh golly if I don't feel proud of myself when Im done. You need a weighted ball, a body bar, and light weights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dress size shredder, July 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: All the Right Moves - Yoga, Pilates & Dance Conditioning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Bottom line about this video: I did the exercises twice a week, for 8 weeks. I dropped 2 dress sizes (from 10 to 6) without changing my diet. My hips narrowed, my buttocks raised, and I got the beautiful quad split on the sides of my thighs, which makes wearing a pair of slingbacks and a miniskirt a joy. I bow down. Thank you, Grace!! When's the next video coming?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Instructor, August 13, 2002

I really enjoyed Grace's instruction style. I have been very sick of annoying video instructors, and this was a nice change. This video is great, but definitely not for beginners or people who have never done any yoga poses (the video is intense, and you need to know the poses already). If I could take this class in person, I would be sure to do it. This will be a regular addition to my routine.

I'm one of those people who impulsively goes on a fitness kick but later loses interest due to apathy or a dislike of the instructor. All the Right Moves has definitely bettered those excuses -- and more. Since I've had the tape, I've done it consistently -- and happily for 19 weeks now. Not only has my body been the better for in in both strength and flexibility, it's had a ripple effect on my health outlook. My diet has improved and my metabolism thanks me for it!

Grace is a true motivator. You listen to her on the tape, and she makes you feel good about doing the workout. I highly recommend this to anyone who's serious about making a fitness change.

4.0 out of 5 stars callanetics meets pilates, March 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: All the Right Moves - Yoga, Pilates & Dance Conditioning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I really like this video and it works well. I am very familiar with both pilates and Callanetics and can immediately see the influences. Lazenby probably got her techniques straight from the source which is Lotte Berk the Russian Prima who taught the technique to Callan. I have to agree with one other reviewer about the yoga part. I rewound and watched repeatedly and everytime the instructor went from Downward dog to Cobra instead of upward dog. For a warmup that is really hard on your back. So when you're warming up make sure that you go into upward dog instead of cobra so you won't strain your back! the exercise do work and I really like the idea of combining the best parts of Callanetics/ Lotte Berk Method with the best parts of dance training and pilates. It really saves time. I HIGHLY suggest being familiar with correct yoga technique and pilates before trying this tape. Also take a look at the regular callanetics so you can see the influences and maybe get some ideas on how to protect your back. NOTE if your back IS BAD don't do this tape! One last thing, I found a dresser and/or bookshelf a good substitute for the body bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! - But i like it!, November 24, 2002

I am British & live in England, but have been looking at this site because your fitness tapes are more varied and interesting. This one arrived yesterday, but will I think become a favourite. I found that a sturdy broomstick sufficed as a makeshift bar and I borrowed my son's football (I will invest in a softer ball though, I think). This morning I felt muscles that have lain unused for some time and can't wait to give it another go. At 44, I felt the time had come to get my body back and halt the tide of flobbydobbyness. I have been doing NYC Ballet and Pilates for a few weeks and, have also just acquired Tamilee Webb's "I want that body" + Kathy Smith buns & thighs step workout, along with keli Roberts I like all of those too & am already starting to feel more toned. However I think that "All the Right Moves" is just what I've been searching for to give an all-round work-out and help me win the battle. I'm so glad that my video recorder plays American tapes.

5.0 out of 5 stars All In One Workout - Awesome, April 20, 2003
This review is from: All the Right Moves - Yoga, Pilates & Dance Conditioning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I got this video quite awhile ago, and when I first previewed it, I realized I wasn't ready for it. I have been doing Pilates and Yoga for awhile now and grabbed this one this morning and did the whole workout and all I can say is WOW!! I will be doing this workout on a consistent basis and I love the way it challenges me and I have something to look forward to. Fitness is so much more than jumping up and down and lifting some weights. I am 41 years old and after this video, I could touch my hands flat on the floor!! Amazing!! Love it - wish she had more workouts to purchase. BTW, this is my first review ever and I have been purchasing through Amazon.com for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT MOVED ME, September 6, 2001
By
This review is from: All the Right Moves - Yoga, Pilates & Dance Conditioning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I loved this tape. I have never written a review before-- but I have been doing the tape for a few weeks and I feel my body changing. Grace was informative, easy to understand and challenging. Everything was pretty straight forward. I was looking for something that I could do at home and really stick with. I would strongly recommend this video for someone who doesn't just want yoga--but is looking for a little more movement.

When is Grace coming to NY-- I would love to take one of her classes in person.
