When I first listened to this album, I had no idea I was about to be blown away by *so many* infectious tunes. If you're checking this album out, you've probably already heard the single that started it all, "All Rise." Here's a quick run-through of all the tracks:

1) All Rise - A song about getting back at a nasty ex-gf. Although this was their first single, the others are much better.
2) Too Close - Groovy cover of Next's sexy hit a few years back.
3) This Temptation - IMO, this is even better than All Rise. Extremely infectious, this makes me want to dance!
4) If You Come Back - The first ballad of the album - a really excellent mid-tempo song that *isn't* at all weighed down by sappiness.
5) Fly By - Another seriously catchy track.
6) Bounce - One of the better numbers on the album, very danceable.
7) Long Time - A slow song -- and my least favourite.
8) Make It Happen - On the slow side, the boys sound really great (not to mention persuasive ;)) here.
9) Back To You - Rock-influenced, giving it a harder funkier edge.
10) Girl I'll Never Understand - Another lovely mid-tempo number.
11) Back Some Day - This is a soulful ballad that sounds eerily like something 98º would sing. All the same, I love it.
12) Best In Me - What a great way to end an album. Once again, this reminds me of 98º. Brilliant track that displays how well the boys voices blend.

Antony, Duncan, Lee, Simon definitely stand out from the crowd -they aren't another wannabe boyband. Lee, barely out of his teens, has an amazing voice (I bet he could sing on Broadway if he wanted to). Cheers to the boys and the production team for giving us good music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Boy Band with an Edge, April 18, 2002
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
This is a great cd! At first I was suspicious because there are already so many boy bands out there, all with the bandmember who has highlighted hair and a pretty voice, etc. However, there is something unique about this group. Their album is so catchy, I've been listening to it for days. It's not the most deepest or original album, but it's simply a lot of fun. "All Rise" is a great song to sing along to. "Too Close" is actually a remake of Minnesota band "Next"'s 1998 hit but Blue does a great job of adding their own influence to it. "This Temptation" has a great and addictive hook that would be fun to hear in a club. The lyrics are so over the top, that you have to love them. "You wanna get it on right now I see, I just wanna say that's cool with me". Nice. I love number 7, "Long Time". The simple guitar intro is the best part along with the rich sound made when all the members sing together. "Back Someday" as well, has a great opening, with pizzacato and 3/4 time that almost gives this song a waltz-y feeling. This is the song where the lead singer's voices are really shown off and deserve to be. Great album, can't wait for their next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue came with a Bang & they are 'The Best', June 19, 2002
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
Biggest new Band to emerge from UK hardly a year ago and Blue is the Best! Lee, Duncan, Simon & Anthony have proven themselves to be the pop phenomenon with their two No.1 Smash hits and four top ten singles. With release in May 201, All Rise entered UK Chart at No.4 and stayed in Top for five Weeks. All rise is my favourite video too. Too Close and If you come Back smashed to Top Charts at 1 and Too close is one great number that you can't miss to catch up listening even with a mobile tune. Its rathar an adult stuff too but sung too sweetly, I'd admit. The groovy 'Long Time' and 'Best in me' has the smooth vocals and the swinging 'all rise' scales on top with the beats n lyrics. In six month 'All Rise' got the double Platinum Status in Uk and no way, they sure too good singers, a slight different to Backstreet Boys and Nsync. This Temptation & Fly By, fly By..are two good numbers to swing and tip tap toe singing. The singers are breakthroughs with 'Perfect Pop singing' Irresistible R n B and Ballad singing. The waltz n guitar tunes are jes superb in Back Someday. Please don't go Make it happen is a beautiful song with tempting lyrics. Bounce too has good lyrics 'Everybody wants to get high like that...and Best of me is the last number with best lyrics among all, call it inspirational number that really gets 5 stars. Overall, 'Blue - All Rise' is A+ and all Stars to shine as I look forward for more albums n videos of Blue. They are the Best 'Perfect' Pop to scale top in my charts leading Backstreet boys, Nsync, No mercy down to the lane. I can't stop listening to Blue at least one song a day, Its Cool Pick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent music; overall, a great buy!, March 13, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
When I first saw the video of 'All Rise' on TV, I knew that I had to get the whole CD and listen to all Blue songs. The CD itself is great and the sound quality is good. All the songs starting from All Rise itself to Best in Me are amazing. All Rise is very nice and an all-time favourite of all Blue fans. It's like the Backstreet Boy's Backstreet Back. Too Close is nice, but the lyrics are a little inappropriate for children. This Temptation with good lyrics, but refering to adult stuff, though little kids may not understand it, so it's okay. If You Come Back being nice, but a little sloppy and has only one person singing the chorus. Fly By, one of my favs, is really nice and Duncan James does a specially good job with the opening verse. Long time, like If You Come Back, is a little sloppy. Make It Happen is amazing and does something to you every time you listen to it and makes you want to hear it again and again. Back To You is also very nice. Girl I'll Never Understand, Back Some Day and Best In Me are all good and worth listening to twice. All songs are great; sloppy or inappropriate for little kids, and all-in-all, a great buy well worth the money. I like Duncan James a lot from Blue!

5.0 out of 5 stars All Rise -- Blue, March 6, 2002
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Blue since they first came out with All Rise in the UK last spring. I listened to All Rise, Too Close, and If You Come Back almost religiously until the album was released in Canada. Needless to say, I was expecting a LOT from this album. Honestly, it went above and beyond even my expectations.

Blue isn't your typical boy band. They don't have the mindless pop beats, they're not manufactured. Their music is a lot more R&B, music that even anti-boyband people can enjoy (yes, this is true).

The songs go from sweet (If You Come Back) to edgy (Back Some Day) to soul (Too Close) to R&B (All Rise) to clubbing (Fly By). It's a great CD, not one bad song on there. Well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smashing debut!, December 10, 2001

Blue strikes me as a non-conventional boyband. They churn out hits which, unlike the mainstream pop playing on the radio these days, have an R & B-ish twang which very much appeals to my saccharine-tainted ears. Be sure to check out stand-out songs such as Too Close, If You Come Back (both singles reached the No. 1 spot in the UK charts!), as well as Fly By, Best in Me amongst many other great tracks!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine debut release, May 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
Boy bands come and boy bands go and they average around 4 to 5 years. So we'll see how long this one remains. However, what's so interesting about this four piece boy band from Britain is that they share the vocals around relatively evenly unlike many boy bands which happens to be a one man event. This collection of twelve songs is a solid debut release which miggles with almost all forms of music. If this is really the Australian version of the album which was released back in November 2001, the tracklisting should read:
1. All Rise
2. Too Close
3. This Temptation
4. If You Come Back
5. Fly By
6. Bounce
7. Long Time
8. Make It Happen
9. Back To You
10. Back Some Day
11. Girl I'll Never Understand
12. Best In Me

Most people were attracted to the first single "All Rise" but I found it annoying, maybe it's just me. The second single "Too Close" is a cover of US R&B Group Next's 1998 except utilised a bit more vocal arrangement than the original version of the song. "If You Come Back", the third single sees a change in direction musicall as the boys opted for a mid-tempo ballad with aching lyrics. Despite the fact that the album version of "Fly By" is different from the version available on the single release, it's not too bad a song either so don't feel that the reason why the song was remixed before it was released was because the album version is [good] because it's not. It's a very likable clubby kind of song. Scheduled single number five "Best In Me" happens to be the album's closing song and it's surprisingly the album's best. A slow paced guitar driven track which is scheduled for release due to demand and petitioning from fans all around the globe. Other stand outs that didn't get the single release treatment will no doubt be "This Temptation", "Back Some Day" & "Long Time".

One of the key factor of this album is that it is well balanced. There's the ballads, there's the uptempo, there's the mid-tempo in terms of pace. There's the wooing of the girls, and then there's the heart ache in terms of lyrical content so it's got basically everything all in one. Only one complaint though, a little short, one or two extra tracks would have been nice. But yeah, most definitely a very solid, well round release. Looking forward to the new album this coming November.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favourite CD's, July 20, 2002
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
Blue are my favourite boy band! In fact, they are my favourite band overall! I was blown away by all 12 tracks! They're all brilliant!

1. All Rise
Amazingly catchy song. It was Blue's first hit, and it hit #4, which is excellent for a debut. 5/5

2. Too Close
A sexy cover of Next's 1997 hit. The lyrics may be hard to understand for younger kids, but it's a great song anyway. 5/5

3. This Temptation
This is catchy, but a little bland for my taste. It's your usual party song. 3.5/5

4. If You Come Back
The guy's third single, this hit #1. This is slow, but sweet. Lee's vocals sound awesome. 4.5/5

5. Fly By
The fourth single. It's a real great party song and it makes me dance! The vocals are brilliant, and you can't help singing along! 5/5

6. Bounce
Another excellent upbeat party song, with a great beat. It makes you tap your feet, and before you know it, you're dancing! 5/5

7. Long Time
I love this ballad. It's pure brilliance. The lyrics are lovely and the music is amazing. One of my favourites. 5/5

8. Make It Happen
A eerie sounding song, with a addictive beat and wonderful lyrics. It's odd, but in a good way! 4.5/5

9. Back To You
The shortest song on the album, it's simple and catchy! The chorus and middle 8 catch you and I cant help singing along! 5/5

10. Girl I'll Never Understand
A midtempo treat, that doesn't sound like Blue at all. I love the vocals on this! 4.5/5

11. Back Someday
Such a beautiful song! This is my favourite on the whole album. It has brillant lyrics, so heartfelt and wonderful. It's such a beautiful song, I cried the first time I heard it. 5555555555/5

12. Best In Me
A great way to end the album. It's a simple, cute love song with Duncan and Lee on vocals. 5/5

All in all, a BRILLIANT album. I'm so impressed! Duncan is gorgeous, their songs are gorgeous and they rock! Buy this album today!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cooler 'Boy Band'!, April 15, 2002
By
Ian Creamer (Dublin,Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All Rise (Audio CD)
The debut album by this foursome was taking the British pop scene by storm, that was until the recent advent of the dreaded "Pop Idol" phenomenon. Four are basically a 'boy band' with a bit more attitude and a more sassy sound. They seem to have a mixture of classic 'boy band' pop, but also using the basic garage template that has made the likes of Craig David very popular. Indeed I'd reckon that if David had landed himself in a boy band some of his songs would have had a sound not too dissimilar to this. Unlike say Westlife their songs are not over-commercial in that not every track seems like it's destined for that coveted Christmas #1 spot.Their debut single monster hit and title track "All Rise" illustrates this perfectly. A really cool musical arrangement of poppy harmonica sounding synths mixed with a garage beat it's a truly great track. The start even has the traditional David intro-rap which is done quite often by group member Simon. Another good aspect to the group is that each member seems equally adept at taking over the lead vocals. You never get tired of listening to one voice and each member has their own particular vocal style. Another hit "Fly By" has that street garage sound and rhythm. The tracks seem to be a mixture of these and then ballads which seem to be the norm for all these groups. "If You Come Back" is the best of these and the vocals for the last verse are really strong and good. Unfortunately there are a few ballads that verge on being just a little too over-commercial and insipid-like the recent hit "Back To You". Basically though this is an enjoyable enough album that is a cut above and the average 'boy band' dross.
