I first read this book while stationed on Okinawa in 1960 and it remains, today, as my FAVORITE book - and always will be. I've read everything that Mr. John Lederer has written and they are all superb, however, as I have said, this one stands out (to me) as the best. Maybe because it depicts more in line of my background - the US military.

The site where I received this book is superb and I would be glad to recommend them again. Great pricing and shipping actions. Thanks....

where a man can get into Annapolis by acting as "captain of the head"...

where a man can win a night club in a crap game...

where a man can throw a "schmootzle" and have 500 gorgeous debutantes as his guests...

where a man can get orders to go out and learn about women...and further orders not to come back without the evidence!!!

*"schmootzle": a snooty, white-tie-and-tails kind of party that everyone tries to crash-and can't!

I just finished reading this book, and it is by far one of my favorite books ever. I am by no means a rapid reader, but I finished this book in a couple of days because I just couldn't put it down. It chronicles the career of William J. Lederer in the Navy. The tales he tells are vivid and really get you into the feeling. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who likes the sea, navy, or just reading!

I had remembered this book when I was in the Navy in Korea in 1952 and had not seen it in stores. It is impressive indicating the influence of one individual on the entire crew of a ship. I had used it as a text when I had to pinch hit for a chaplain on the Hospital Ship. The book, although old was in very good condition.

All the Ships at Sea is one of the most enjoyable books I've read. But maybe you have to have served in the Military to appreciate it.
