Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 6-10 Amy, a high-school senior at the top of her 1954 graduating class, meets Elvis, a former graduate, in the beauty parlor. (He is there because barbers can not give him the image that he desires.) Amy is attracted to him and invites him to her party. Her parents protest the relationship, but Amy continues to see him. She also encourages him to make a recording that leads to his discovery; he is placed in a band where his strange looks, great voice, and free-style movements propel him to stardom. Elvis is of course, Elvis Presley, and Amy is the fantasy of the girl behind the rising star. Levy researched Elvis' life and early background, and many facts are interspersed with the story in a successful blending that many young adults will enjoy. The main characters are well developed, and the style is fluent and natural. An enjoyable, light book. Regina Pauly, Palmyra High School, N.J.
