The King Inna Reggae Style,
By John S (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All Shook Up: A Reggae Tribute to the King (Audio CD)
I love Elvis Presley's music and I like reggae, so this collection seemed intriguing. What can I say, it's not mindblowing, but quite good nevertheless. Songs are placed in the order Elvis originally recorded his own versions, from 1956 to 1976 (with one odd placement of 'Fever' towards the end of the CD, being justified as Elvis' "1973" recording). Some of these reggae renditions were recorded without Elvis in mind, sometimes years earlier before the King got his version waxed.
The booklet provides brief information on each song. Most songs on CD are authentic reggae recordings from 1960s and 1970s, produced by Bunny Lee, Lee Perry and Sly & Robbie. The highlights of the compilation are: Love Me Tender, One Night, Are You Lonesome Tonight?, Suspicion, In The Ghetto, Fever. If you happen to share a ride with someone who don't like reggae but love Elvis, or vice versa, this CD is fun. |
