4.0 out of 5 stars simply fantastic!, April 5, 2008
This review is from: All Songs Considered 4 (Audio CD)
Bob Boilen (director of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered"), did it again. Volume four of "All Songs Considered" is wonderful. Those who enjoy the musical snippets or 'buttons' from NPR's "All Things Considered" will find immediate gratification. While the anchor genre on volume four is contemporary Singer/Songwriter and Rock, there are many eclectic choices ranging from Reggae and Latin to Medieval and various shades of Jazz. The disc kicks off with Orchestra Baobab. Playing Cuban music, 'Utrus Horas' is one of those songs that is played so beautifully, it will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Damien Rice's 'Delicate' sounds like one of those whimsical songs played in European car commercials. A highlight is the Easy Star All-Stars' rendition of Pink Floyd's 'Breathe.' Other stands-outs are played by Grandaddy and The Polyphonic Spree. The instrumentals tend to be Jazz and work the Gypsy or Piano angles. For volume four of "All Songs Considered," the musical choices are light in weight and sound, but heavy in substance and listening satisfaction.
