Copics and ProMarkers too expensive, but you want alcohol markers? Then these are for you. I have the entire 168 color set, and I can't tell you enough how much I love them. Are they as good as Copics? ProMarkers? I have no idea as I have never tried those brands, but why should I when these are great for less than half the price. They blend smoothly, have a great color range plus the fact they are refillable with replaceable nibs is a win in my book. The square barrel is a nice touch. It feels good in the hand and makes it so the markers don't roll around your desk. Be warned, these are very juicy markers. It took a little time to get used to that and adjust my coloring. I found the paper does make all the difference. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase of these markers.

This is my first real foray into artist markers. I wasn't sure if I would like it, so I didn't want to invest very serious money into the Copics. So I bought a set of pinks and practiced with them. I loved them, so came back and bought the whole set.

They really are great. They blend very well and lay down pretty evenly. Of course sometimes a blender is necessary, but I've found that I don't use it very often. The colors are gorgeous. The first think I did is make up a palette, which has been very useful, since one of my complaints is that the cap color is not always true to the marker color.

They are fantastic, and a fraction of the price of the Copic markers. If you are wanting to jump into marker art, I highly suggest picking up the Spectrum Noir markers. I will post a picture that I drew and colored with them to give you an idea of how they look.

Highly recommended. Just wish the caps matched the colors better!

You get what you pay for. I felt that the Copic alcohol markers were too expensive for me so I went with the Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers. hmmmm, the package says that the average shelf life is 2 years. This is a fairly new product, so why are fully half of my 168 set of markers quite dry to the point of being useless?
To further annoy me, the cap colors really do not match the marker color or intensity. The color gradients are not true, either; the lightest true blue is followed up with one that is too dark and too grey. Then the third in that color series is of another family entirely. A blender pen came with the set, but it doesn't blend very well at all.
For quick card making with small simple images, they seem ok, but for intense color blending and intricate projects, well, they do not get the job done.
In all, I wish I had bought the Copic's.

I first saw these demonstrated at a rubber stamp show. I really liked the colors on the cards the demonstrator was making. I bought a DVD that went along with the pens, which was helpful. I soon realized that the optional set I bought at the show wasn't enough to do what the DVD showed. Amazon had the best price for these 12 Spectrum Noir Pen Sets. Now I have plenty to work with to create vibrant illustrations. If you're new to these types of pens like I am, you would find some instruction helpful on how to use them. These Spectrum Noir pens can be refilled, which was an attractive selling point to me. The DVD I bought at the show also discusses how to store the pens and how to take care of them so that you get the optimum use. The pens have two nibs: a chisel point and a fine point. The fine point end is marked so you know which end you're opening. Opening is somewhat difficult, in that the caps do fit tightly. I was thrilled with my purchase and was greatly surprised to find that a pack of paper. that was recommended in the video I had, was included in the shipment. The paper prevents too much absorption from the pens, thus sustaining the life of the pens' ink. It will take some practice for me to get to know these pens as I am not an artist. But I am having lots of fun getting to use this medium.

I had heard mixed reviews about these markers as a less expensive yet comparable alternative to Copics, so I recently purchased a variety of color packs to try them out. I saw other reviews that said "you get what you pay for," as a commentary on the less expensive price. But in my case the markers were so dry, I didn't even get what I paid for. Some markers were usable, but at least two in each pack were dried or barely had ink. And those that were usable? They didn't blend well with my Copics, and by the next time I went to use them a few weeks later, they were dried out as well. Their purchase was a complete waste of money. The alternative to Copics that I have used and have been quite pleased with is Letraset Promarkers. They are reasonably priced, blend very nicely, and work well with my Copic collection. I will never purchase Spectrum Noir markers again and I most definitely do not recommend them.

The pens are nice except that some of the tips come completeley off when removing the lid leaving the ink barrel exposed. Some were quite hard to remove.

The colors are very easy to blend together. Nice assortment of colors. Smooth application. The only problem is that out of the 72 pens, 2 were completely dry -- no color at all. Other than that, the rest were great.
