Hipster irony,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: An All-Star Salute to Christmas (Audio CD)
There's a lot of attitude in this compilation. To call a collection and "All-Star Salute to Christmas" is in itself an ironic statement, and nobody's trying to hide that here. I bet it still gives the producers a chuckle to this day.
Still, I can't discourage anyone from buying this collection. Many of the recordings have appeared elsewhere before, but are no longer in print. There's a lot of freshness and originality in putting this group of old and new renditions together, so if you collect Christmas CDs you may like this lineup. I do. Give it a spin!

Quirky mix for the obscure Christmas Song collector,

This review is from: An All-Star Salute to Christmas (Audio CD)
This caught my eye because of 2 songs related to the Deep Purple family, namely Glen Hughes and Steve Morse. I had heard Morses' other work on the Merry Axemas collection and was hoping for more ear candy. Well, I got it. Plus, the Tommy Tutone Christmas version of 867-5309 Jenny is a holiday keeper in itself.
But to see George Lynch, James Brown, Air Supply, Robby Krieger, and the Motels on this collection made me appreciate the twisted sense of humor of the producers. Which is why I rate collection at 5 stars. A nice departure from the pablum of standard recycled Christmas music. |
