All the fun and more,

This review is from: All The Stuff (And More) Volume One (Audio CD)
The first two Ramones albums plus b sides on one CD is as fine as it gets for the happy comic book lyrics and head bobbing sounds of the late 70's. This is definelty a "play loud" selection. What makes them so great, and they were a great band, is that with a few nifty chords and a simple hard driving drum and bass line they were able to make any blue day brighter. Cheerful punk? "Hey little girl, I wanna be your boyfriend." Yes. As American as it gets with songs about sniffing glue, being an unruly kid, chasing girls, riding in cars, sniffing more glue and then dancing through the night. The Ramones had no pretentions to being anything other than a great rock and roll band and "All The Stuff Vol. 1" is the first chapter in music the way that the music of rock and roll began. Punk aside, what band after them doesn't owe them a nod of thanks for how to work the hell out of a chord and to make the 2 minute song an art form of both rage and giggles? This CD, Ramonesmania and It's Alive are very much essential discs for the car, for parties, and for working around the house with a dance in your step.
Some rockers need angry punk and Jamaican Clash rip-offs to justify the beat, but when listenting to the Ramones none of that is needed, all you need is a love of the Mosrite bass and guitar and a sense of humor. Fast and loud. That's the Ramones.

Compilation of first 2 albums and then some...,

This review is from: All The Stuff (And More) Volume One (Audio CD)
This CD is contains the complete first two albums by the
Ramones: "Ramones" and "Ramones Leave Home". It also includes a few B-sides of singles, not released on the original LP's. These are "I don't want to be learned, I don't want to be tamed", "I Can't Be", "Babysitter", and the live version of "California Sun". Unfortunately, it does not contain the originally banned track "Carbona Not Glue", which was replaced by "Sheena is a Punk Rocker". This CD is especially helpful for all those old Ramones fans out there trying to replace their vinyl LP's onto CD. This will save you having to buy both "Ramones" and "Ramones Leave Home", and give you a few bonus tracks as well.

Essential rock'n'roll from one of the greats!,

This review is from: All The Stuff (And More) Volume One (Audio CD)
These albums are so good I want to weep. If you know anything at all about the Ramones you will not doubt me when I say they are one of the greatest, most original and influential bands of all time. These albums, the third and forth, are pure American rock'n'roll--from the bubblegum rhythm of "Rockaway Beach" to the sheer infectious fulltilt rave-up of "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" (in my opinion, ranks with "Like a Rolling Stone," "Satisfaction," "Paperback Writer," "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Every Breath You Take" as one of the top ten greatest rock'n'roll songs EVER) to the manic "I Wanna Be Sedated" and heartbreaking "Questioningly," this CD is a must. Whenever I go to someone's house and I check out their CDs (you do this too), and if I do NOT see a Ramones CD or tape or record, my estimation of that person drops a notch. Hell, three or four notches. Brilliant beyond words.
