"All That Falls" continues the Etherlin series by following a different main character - the muse Cerise. It's an easy and natural transition as Alissa and Merrick still figure heavily in the storyline. What I do appreciate about this series is that the main male and female characters are given equal time, so readers can see both where they came from, and how they change and grow. At first, I wasn't as enamored of Cerise as I had been of Alissa in "All That Bleeds." It felt like Lysander's attraction to her was a bit unearned, especially considering that Alissa's relationship with Merrick took 5 years of letter writing to develop. Also, Alissa followed a higher calling and exhibited a wider morality than Cerise. While Alissa spurned convention to follow that calling, it seemed that Cerise was merely rebelling (if you say "up" I say "down" - you say "stop" I say "go"). It seemed a shallow attraction. However, Cerise won me over by mid-book when she traded attitude for action. "All That Falls" goes deeper into past relationships, revealing the desire and ego that leads to betrayal. There are also uncommon heroes in Richard and Jersey, one of whom serves up a nice dish of comeuppance. With lots of action and characters that are easy to care about, "All That Falls" is a superb second book in the Novels of the Etherlin.

I love this series of which this is the second book. Darker than the Southern Witch series, but exciting with some humor and great characters. I recommend reading first book "All That Bleeds" first to get background. Both books have hot leading men and strong female leads.

and I loved the first book! I did not particularly care for Cerise in the first book and I started this one feeling I wouldn't like the heroine but right from the beginning she surprised me. A strong woman who is obviously a match made in heaven for a redemption seeking fallen archangel. The characters from the first book seamlessly carry over to this one and, not surprisingly, Merrick remains his exceptional self. Many times, Cerise thinks how "cool" Merrick is and he certainly is. Regardless, he does not overshadow Lysander who is an amazing character himself. I loved everything about this book. I couldn't put it down, it was riveting.

I really enjoyed Kimberly Frost's Southern Witch series so looked forward to this new one. Unfortunately it didn't measure up to her previous work. It is just okay, I don't regret reading it but it will not become part of my "TBR again" list

Cerise Xenakis, the current day muse of music and dance, has lost her magic. It happened a year ago, the night her aspirant rock star boyfriend died, a night she can't remember. She searches for his missing songbook, convinced it holds secrets that will help her heal and regain her powers.

Lysander has the book. He's a fallen archangel who has waited for thousands of years to fulfill a prophecy he hopes will regain his place in heaven. When he meets Cerise, he's drawn to her athletic dancer's strength and her courage. He wants her, but it can never be. This guy is all about redemption. And he's perfect! I mean, he IS an archangel.

When Lysander is seriously injured in a battle with six demons who found their way to earth, Cerise saves his life, and in doing so, binds herself to him through their blood. She figures that's not such a bad thing. After all, he's magnificent.

But an evil demon, Raziel, has other plans for Lysander and his muse. Through heart-stopping action, the trickery of denizens of evil, and deadly battles, these two lovers fight together to save the world from a horrible fate - all the while knowing their love can never be.

I loved the first book in this series. Alissa and Merrick were all about light and dark and forbidden love. They're just as endearing in this story. But talk about forbidden love...this hero's going back to heaven, and Cerise must stay on earth to fulfill her own muse destiny.

This is book rocks! Full of surprises, quick turns, and the eternal romance we all long for.

To be fair, I did not really love either of these characters when they were secondary characters in the first book. With that said, I have read other books where side characters I was lukewarm about turned out to be great when they starred in their own books. This was not the case for me on this one. All the things I did not like about the characters before was still there and more. More than that, though, I really felt like this was about two people with overwhelming baggage finding some solace with each other rather than anything approaching a romance.

All That Falls

How can you possibly go wrong with pairing up the rock and roll muse and a sexy as sin fallen archangel!?!?! You can't! I had mixed feelings about Cerise in the first book but I knew I had to see more of Lysander. Bad boy in leathers, plus he has wings and can play the violin.

Cerise definitely grew stronger in my eyes in this book. She took control of her life, tried to figure out what had happened to her and how her lover had died, and didn't let the preconceptions of the Etherlin affect how she felt about Lysander and neither did it stop her from going after him.

Their chemistry was excellent in a hot but soft at the same time way. There was a lot more romance in this book it seemed than book one, or at least more of it happened face to face, up close and personal.

Then there's the actual story ARC which was much more developed in this book but continues on the plot from book one. A lot of use muse politics, betrayals, demon posessions and more. I also loved the brief glimpse of Merrick and Alyssa. Things are still not resolved and I can't wait to see what the next installment will bring.
