5.0 out of 5 stars Can Wrong Turn into Right?, February 16, 2008
This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
Santee Mitchell keeps coming up short. She is short on her rent, her car payment is way past due, and the love of her life gave her the short end of the stick. Santee knows that things have to change and it must happen fast. A distant friend, Monique, introduces Santee to a world of flashy clothes, fancy houses, and fine dining. The extravagant lifestyle leaves Santee's nose wide open. At first she didn't know what to think of the sexy dancing and long nights, until that first outlandish sexual experience turned her out. As she agreed to sell her soul to the devil, her money woes disappeared but her peace of mind takes a beating.

ALL THAT GLITTERS is a sure fire page-turner. The character development is creatively wrapped around the drama that Santee encounters. The story has twists and turns that this reader never expected which made this reader finish the book in one setting. ALL THAT GLITTERS has a few gangsta characters but its not what I would consider urban lit as the plot doesn't focus on the drugs, murder, or videotapes rather on the relationships that behavior changes. Sparks definitely ranks among my new favorites and is an author everyone should watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be careful what you wish for!!!, November 18, 2007
This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
All That Glitters is a compelling, engaging and wonderfully written story. D.L. Sparks is a great storyteller who presents a realistic peek into the life of Santee Mitchell, a girl seemly at her wits end who makes one bad decision after another. But she soon finds out some decisions can cost you more than you bargain for. I enjoyed reading All That Glitters so much that I could not put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Make the money don't let the money make you, January 18, 2009
This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
Santee Mitchell just cannot catch a break. Santee picks the wrong men and keeps coming up short with her money. She has a low paying job that barely keeps the lights on, and has her hiding from the repo man and ducking bill collector's phone calls. The only family she has is a sister who she is convinced wishes she was never born. Santee does have a sister-friend Delaree who has her back though thick and thin. Santee's friend Monique comes to her with a plan to get out of debt and put some much-needed cash in to her pockets. After considering and taking the deal; her life takes a drastic change for the worst. With this deal, she has sold her soul to the devil. Can she step away unscathed? On the other hand, will she be trapped with no way out? Find the answer in this fast-paced novel.

I really enjoyed "All that Glitters." The title was perfect for the subject of this book. Author D.L. Sparks tells a compelling story of a woman trying to make ends meet on short money. While I am sure somewhere, somebody is living the nightmare that Santee has put herself in and this book could help him or her by learning from the characters mistakes. This book is written where I could feel the character emotions. I was impressed with the characters devolvement and the fact that D.L had no useless characters in this book. With only about seven character in the book with mention of a few more that made it interesting the story came together quite lovely. The editing was good. I had just two questions how did Eric learn Santee's real name as he only knew her as babygirl? In addition with Eric; what motivated him I understood his story just not, why he fell for Santee so hard.

I will be looking for future project of Ms. Sparks.

When I read the excerpts for this book, I had to have it. Reading "All That Glitters" was like have a scoop of your favorite icecream and being disappointed after you had eaten that last spoon dull! D.L. Sparks made the characters come alive ... at times I felt like I was part of the book. Needless to say, I can't wait for the future works that this wonderful author produces! Hurry D.L.; your public awaits!!!!

This was the absolute best book that I have read in a very long time. I could hardly put the book down. D.L. articulates a very realistic story that places readers right in the midst of the story. This is definitely a book I recommend to all of my family and friends. Can't wait for the next release D.L.! Keep doing your thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Man's Point of View, November 29, 2007
This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
First, I must admit that I don't ususally read this type of fiction writing, but the way D.L. grabs you from the start of the book, makes it hard to put down. The characters become real and the "hook" of the story is unbelievable. The story kept me intrigued with ATL's grown-folk underground entertainment. It's something you think only happens in Hollywood, but in The South, it's always a little more "dirty". After reading All That Glitters by D.L. Sparks, I must say that I'm looking forward to reading more of the type of fiction I don't usually read.

4.0 out of 5 stars AAMBC Book Reviews, October 31, 2008
This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
I must say I am truly blessed to be able to read the work of some astounding authors. D.L Spark's release of "All that Glitters" is a masterpiece in it's own right. Trailing the life of Santee, a young beautiful black woman trying to find herself in a world of full glitter and gold. Determined to make her own way in life, she becomes mixed up with the wrong crowd making fast money. Just like the old saying "Everything that glitters ain't gold", Santee finds out the hard way that things are not always what they seem and later realizes that even with money you can still lead a painful and lonely life. In return for the money that she makes, she may have to give up love, her life and freedom. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family. I was impressed with Sparks's attention to detail and imagery when telling the story. I found myself falling in love with characters and began to empathize with Santee. If you have not read this book, I would suggest you get it soon!

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read!, September 1, 2008

This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
D.L. Sparks has produced a novel whose characters many of us can relate to....looking for love, acceptance, and a way out and the measures we take to attain it. Her main character, Santee, evolves into a woman who realizes that the true key to happiness and fulfillment is loving and taking responsibility for self. A very enjoyable read!

Great book--will be reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Novel That Definitely SHINES!!!!!, April 29, 2008
This review is from: All That Glitters (Paperback)
D.L. Sparks wrote a story that grabbed me from the beginning and refused to let go even after reading the very last word. My heart not only went out to Santee, the main character, but to all young ladies, as well as men who get caught up into the "money is everything mindset." D.L. definitely captured the personalities of all characters allowing me to hate, love, cry and feel the utmost sadness for.

"All That Glitters," definitely captures the soul of a tainted society and is, in my opinion, a novel to be read by ALL! I commend D.L. on a well written novel and definitely can't wait to read her future works
