Book Description

July 1, 1997
Debbie Jensen has spent the last several years caring for her family. Keeping house for her widowed father and raising her younger brother and sister. Now that her sister is married, her brother established in a job, and her father re-married, Debbie is faced with leaving the cozy nest in which she had been hiding from issues in her past and creating a place for herself in the world. While vacationing along the spectacular Oregon coast she meets the man who forces her to face the guilt and fear she has carried for so long, and who helps her discover the truth of II Corinthians 5:17 ’Old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.’ Paper.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Devout Christian Debbie Jensen wants nothing more from life than to become a wife and mother. When her father remarries, she realizes she has to look for a job for the first time in her life. While visiting her cousin, a well-known and successful writer, Debbie meets theologian Gregory Masefield. Debbie finds herself falling in love with both Gregory and his young daughter. Seemingly, Gregory should be the answer to Debbie's dreams, but their romance doesn't run smoothly, since both feel guilt over the death of loved ones. Although the subplot involving Gregory's wife doesn't work as well as the romantic elements of the story, Crow (Encounter the Light, Crossway, 1997) still provides a charming look at a religious woman's attempts to discover who she is and what she wants. Worth purchasing, especially in collections with a demand for romances.

More About the Author

Donna Fletcher Crow, who lives in Idaho with her husband of 46 years, is the mother of four adult children, grandmother of 10 and author of thirty-some books, mostly novels dealing with British history. Her best known book is the epic historical novel Glastonbury, The Novel of Christian England, which was awarded First Place, Historical Fiction, by the National Federation of Press Women.

After almost 10 years in the publishing wilderness Donna is reentering the fray with The Monastery Murders, a series of ecclesiastical mysteries featuring Felicity Howard, an American woman studying for the Anglican priesthood in a monastery in remote Yorkshire. When Felicity's favorite monk is bludgeoned to death she finds herself learning about a lot more than theoretical theology. A Very Private Grave, the first in the series will be released by Monarch Books (Lion Hudson) in May 2010 in the UK and next Sept. in the US by Kregel Books.

She says, "I write historical novels and contemporaries that draw heavily on historical background, because I believe it is vitally important that we not loose touch with our rich historical heritage. Those who have gone before us have worked too hard and suffered too much to preserve the privileges we enjoy for us to forget their stories. Reading of the triumphs of the faithful in ages past can inspire and strengthen us for our own challenging times."

Donna is an enthusiastic gardener, enjoying the challenge of growing an English cottage garden in the Idaho desert. You can visit her garden at http://novelgarden.blogspot.com/
She also enjoys drinking tea with family and friends and hearing from her readers. You can write to her at DonnaFCrow@aol.com.

3.0 out of 5 stars AN OK BOOK!, December 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: All Things New (Virtuous Heart Series, Book One) (Paperback)
Not one of my favorite books, but still worth reading .. .If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift! This book was edited by Lupus specialist Dr. Matt Morrow too, and has the latest information on that disease. ..A perfect gift for someone who started college late in life, fell in love too late in life, is living with any illness, or trying to understand a loved one who is. . .A gift to be cherished forever.
