This review is from: All This and Pecan Pie (Audio CD)
Grant Langston is a tremendous musical talent. He is possessed of a rare combination of the abilities to write both catchy music and insightful lyrics. This record, by the former frontman of the LA club band Uncle Otto, showcases both skills. The songs run the gamut from spirited rockers recorded with an excellent studio band ("Time of Day", a song featured as an acoustic version on the hit TV series "Angel"), to a piano ballad ("Hopeless"), to live solo acoustic performances ("Poor White Trash"). The themes range from serious examinations of personal responsibility ("Allan Williams"), to keenly ironic and humorous takes on relationships ("The Real Man"). In each case, these songs will reel you in, and like the audience on the live recordings, you'll be singing along in no time. Very highly recommended.
