Biography

It is with no small dosage of irony that highly acclaimed jazz pianists Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes close their dynamic new duo piano album with the timeless standard “Never Will I Marry.” Marry, they have, and happily marry, they do—in musical terms—on Double Portrait, a high point in their respective careers, and the first recorded example of what must be considered one of the finest and most… Read more in Amazon's Bill Charlap Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful piano trio!, December 13, 2000

This review is from: All Through the Night (Audio CD)
I first heard Bill Charlap at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival here in Idaho, the year Hank Jones couldn't make it. Shortly after that, I nabbed the All Through the Night CD when I saw it. Charlap is a fine player. His arrangements are original, his harmonic vocabulary is beautiful, and his solos thoughtful and fun, all in a style that is widely accessible. People who listen to Bill Evans, George Shearing, Hank Jones, etc., might like to add Bill Charlap to the group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Cru jazz for the ages, July 10, 2000
This review is from: All Through the Night (Audio CD)
A jazz aficionado friend has been talking about Bill Charlap for years. To console myself for missing him live recently, I bought several of his CDs. All Through The Night is the standout thus far. I played it once through, then hit repeat and listened to it 5 more times. Skill, deep passion, elegance, and a finish that goes on and on. Bravo.
