A wonderfully sung group of hymns. Filled with reverence.,

This is the old-time sung favorite hymns I used to listen to while young and at home. Hasn't lost any of it's inspiring message in 30 years time. Shows respect and love for God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. The deep timbre of Tennessee Ernie Ford and the melodic harmonizations of the other voices ring out to touch my heart even today! I just LOVE to listen to it!

A Great Way to honor one's Dad.,

This album is realeased by Mike Curb in memory of his father. These are his favorite songs by his favorite singer. The only complaint one can have is that there is only 14 songs. This might have been done, because many of Ernie's religous lps had 14 songs.Nethertheless this collection is enough to make Dad proud. Six of the songs come from Ernie's "Sing A Hymn With Me". Since they're not found on the the Amazing Grace CD set (also available at amazon.com) this set makes a nice addition. "Faith of our Fathers" is the title track of an overlooked 1967 album. I consider it to be real bonus of this set.

i am not particularly religious in the organized, go-to-church sense, but was raised on these songs when i was a kid, in the 50's and 60's, and grew to love them and got a good part of what ever religion i now have from them; this album hits most of the high spots of the TEF hymn album we had when i was a boy. i remember two TEF albums back then; one of hymns and one of spirituals. neither is currently available and some of the songs are not on any of currently available albums. I cannot find 'noah found grace in the eyes of the lord" or 'walk in jeruselum just like john" anywhere and "the ninety and nine" I believe is available on another collection. however, i heartily recommend this album as a good cross section of TEF's hymns and introduction to his religious music. as with elvis, hymns and gospel were TEF's first love. this album is a good quality recording and captures his rich baritone. the songs are all familiar hymns; you will probably sing along with them and get some religion from them as i did. play them for your kids. by osmosis, they may pick up some pea-pickin' theology along the way...

This album is perfect for anyone who loves the old hymns. It includes one song that younger people may have never heard before: Church in the Wildwood. I'm 32 and had never heard it. It's a wonderful song and one of my favorites now. Tennesse Ernie sings beautifully on this album. He has a deep, rich voice and a great choir backing him up. It sounds like these people are really worshipping God and having a good time as well. I'm listening to the album as I write this review. Which is actually making it a little difficult, because this is music you want to sing along with. I think this album will be a real blessing to everyone who hears it.

My family has enjoyed the pea picker for many years. I once wrote him a letter. He kindly sent an autographed photo. Sadly, six weeks later he died. This album is a wonderful sampler of the incredible work he did with these beloved hymns. There is an interesting story. My niece sometimes gave my grandmother a ride to church. One time I let them take this album. (My copy is on cassette.) Grandma sang along! A few years later I was asked to write some words for her funeral. I ended the piece by saying that they were probably singing together up in heaven. Curb often puts together collections that mostly cover old ground. Occasionally some rarer songs will pop up. Ironically, there were various collections of these songs, even during Mr. Ford's lifetime. To complicate things even further, he often recut certain songs. I own many of the original vinyl albums, including those used in this collection. Tracks #1, 2, 3, and 5 came from his 1956 album Hymns. Tracks # 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 13 are from the 1960 album Sing A Hymn With Me. This is my personal favorite. It, along with the Sing A Spiritual With Me album (also 1960), would get a great double CD. Track # 8 is from his I Love To Tell The Story album, from his ABC series. Tracks # 9 and 14 are from the Nearer the Cross album. Track # 12 is from The Faith Of Our Fathers album. As noted earlier, the tracks from "Sing A Hymn With Me" are my favorite cuts here. But the entire collection is very good. Like many country singers, Mr. Ford had to fight for these songs on his programs. Yet they were quite popular. Like the late Jimmie Davis and Cristy Lane, Mr. Ford's often better known for his religious recordings. This album is a great introduction. Now if we could just get more of the original albums released on CD! Use the original photos too!

The 1st CD of Mr. Ford's that I purchased was entitled Amazing Grace: 40 Treasured Hymns -- a year later and I still frequently pop that magnificent collection of hymns into the drive. I HAD to have more -- so I purchased 2 other Ernie hymn CDs (including this one) -- and these certainly do not disappoint. While these CDs are comprised of age-old favorite hymns, Mr. Ford's unique, flawless bass voice gives them added life. Blend Mr. Ford's pure, non-pretentious bass voice with a judicious mixture of crisp alto's and tenor's, as some of the selections do, and you are presented with truly, magnificent works of art that seem to never get old. Just drop the CD into the drive, sit back, relax, and let Mr. Ford sing you back home with this soothing collection of favorite hymns.
