Great Beatles covers that kids and adults can enjoy, September 30, 2010
I usually cringe at kid-ified pop music, a la Kidz Bop and such. And as a die-hard Beatles fan, the mere thought of introducing new listeners to anything other than the group's original compositions is downright nauseating. The collection of Beatles' tunes on All Together Now, however, isn't vomit-inducing at all.
These Beatles covers manage to retain the flavor of the Fab Four's originals with a child-friendly whimsy that's endearingly cute and surprisingly entertaining. Most of the songs selected for this compilation - like "Octopus' Garden", "Here Comes The Sun", and "All Together Now" - are rather easy and obvious picks given how playful they were in the first place, but it's the inclusion of "surprises" like "And Your Bird Can Sing", "Good Day Sunshine", and - the bonus track - "Everybody's Got Something to Hide (Except For Me and My Monkey)" that help elevate this recording from pandering to something more.
Beatles fans - new and old - are sure to enjoy these delightful recordings ALMOST as much as those songs as sung by John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
