Easy clean up as well.
Michael Reynolds
The stainless steel is not removable, and is poorly pressed onto the plastic, allowing your mix to get underneath the stainless steel with no way to clean it.
Dino DiMaso
Batteries died within the month, but they were really cheap factory made.

First of all, let's be realistic and admit that this product is not a $699 Vitamixer, i.e., it's not built for heavy mixing or pulsing. It is meant to mix protein drinks, fruit juices and the like. I love it and can't believe I waited so long to look for a product to replace my messy Mason jar and lid. I use the Vortex to mix up my juice, water, vitamin powders and Metamucil in... twice a day. It is AWESOME for this purpose. It may only last a year if I take good care of it, but at this price and when considering how pleased I am with the product, that is fine for me... as long as they haven't discontinue such a great product by the time I need more for Christmas gifts... and I will be buying more for gifts.

PRO's:
*it is lightweight, and battery operated so very portable with no cord and chucks easily into gym bag or purse.
*it's not ugly, with clean, modern lines.
*lid is tight-fitting and has an open/close hole for travel and sipping - like a regular travel cup.
*unlike one of the assertions in a negative review here, the rotating blade is made of a strong, stiff plastic and not out of paper.
*it has 4, 6, 8, 10oz markers on the side, which is very convenient and avoids the need to measure juice or water first and then pour in.

Mini-CON's:
*do not submerge the entire unit or put into dishwasher. just be sure to rinse out the interior thoroughly with hot water immediately after each use so nothing sticks and dries on the inside.
*don't try to twist off the bottom. batteries fit under a tight-fitting rubber flap on bottom.
*remember to put liquids in first, then add any powders.
*does not grind/emulsify/chop/mush-up anything... it is a lightweight mixer for mixing up lightweight elements - and not a blender or ice crusher.

This gadget is a must for those who mix protein and nutrition supplements often. I use mine for workout supplements, coffee, kool aid, etc. It works on everything!. At first i was skeptical about the motor being strong enough to mix my protein regime, since i add a GNC protein mix (RE-Build Mass) and Powder Nutrients. The little two speed motor actually does a good job of mixing my drink, it leaves no clumps what so ever! it's a perfect mix. BUT- you must add your liquid in first, if you put the powder in first, it wont let the spinner turn- i guess not enough force.
The motor starts off at a low gear first, then once it gets the fluids moving it kicks in to a higher gear. (this process is automatic, you cant pick the speed). This cup is easy to clean, it has a fairly good spill proof opening. I've dropped it a few times and nothing came out. Better than most water bottles out there.

My 2 re-chargable AAA batteries(not included) actually last quite a while, so far about a week, using it twice a day. ( i recommend you buying re-chargable batteries and calling it a day, the device comes with regular batts. Besides not being able to microwave it, i haven't tried the dishwasher, nor do i intend to, it has a good rubberized fitted seal easy to remove but sturdy enough to take an everyday beating with out coming off, but somehow i doubt id stay on for the dishwasher cycle and expose the battery bay. Other than that i recommend it for those who mix often, or just want a cool cup to show off at work, (which WILL impress), and mix your perfect sip every time of coffee, or drink. And yes it does make a vortex.

Allows you to mix protein shakes with ease. I just press the button and walk away. It doesn’t mix fruit but anything that has a powdery substance it works really well at mixing.

I've bought a ton of items from Amazon over the past few years. Making a purchase online for an item you can't touch or hold is difficult. You need to have good information and good reviews. So I'll be honest, I'm a little disappointed with this purchase.

Pros:
1. Blends my Almond Milk and Plantfusion powder so that there are no clumps
2. Looks nice
3. Battery compartment is fairly easy to remove and replace batteries

Cons:
1. Lid does not screw on, it is held by a rubber gasket, if the surface between the gasket and lid is wet when the cap is put on, it falls right off and spills all over your gym bag
2. The rim of the cup is stainless steel that is pressed onto the plastic of the cup. The stainless steel is not removable, and is poorly pressed onto the plastic, allowing your mix to get underneath the stainless steel with no way to clean it. After a few uses your cup starts to mold underneath the stainless steel and there is no way to get rid of it. I soaked it in soap and hot water, tried a tiny brush, nothing. It's the main reason why my score is so low. How can you design a container that will potentially hold perishable food ingredients and not make it so that it can be fully cleaned? My cup smells like old Almond Milk and it bothers me that there's nothing i can do about it.
3. Batteries. Stock up on them, lots of them. This cup eats batteries up almost once or twice a week. I use the cup once a day (breakfast) and run the cup for maybe 30 seconds to mix all my powder thoroughly. You can tell when the batteries are getting tired because you're chewing your powder mix with each sip. I've been using Duracell Duralock Power Preserve batteries, not the cheap kind at the dollar store.
4. The battery compartment.
