Book Description

May 17, 2007
To Ian, being a nice boy is a curse. Ian is nothing like his best friend, Lance, who always gets the girls. And Danielle, the girl he met online this summer, is nothing like the girls Ian knows, who think he’s just a nice boy who should be their friend instead of boyfriend.

Ian has plans to change things, though. The weekend before starting his senior year of high school, Ian is set to take off from Chicago for a weekend in Charleston, South Carolina to meet Danielle. His friends Felicia and Lance pile with Ian into his Granny’s Oldsmobile and start off down the road. It’s a long drive – nine hundred and thirty-five miles across six states – but to Ian, it’s worth it. At the other end of this road trip might be something he’s been waiting for, something that he’s been thinking about roughly every eleven seconds since puberty hit – sex.

All the Way is a comedy of misguided hormones and hilarious detours, wherein a nice boy goes the distance for sex, but might find that something even better lives a little closer to home.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 9 Up It's the last weekend before school begins and Ian, a senior, has just experienced the worst summer of his life trapped inside a Dunkin' Donuts storefront at a suburban Chicago mall. In contrast, his friends had wonderful vacations. Felicia vacationed on the Mediterranean, and Lance had exciting adventures with the opposite sex. Ian? Well, he's too nice, and there's nothing worse for attracting girls. But he has an idea he's going to drive his elderly yellow Oldsmobile 935 miles to Charleston, SC, for a face-to-face with hottie Danielle, whom he met in a chat group. Once Lance and Felicia learn about the plan, they can't possibly miss this milestone in Ian's sexual development, and, as the three pile into the car, they name the trip the sex drive. In this laugh-out-loud funny novel with hilarious near disasters, Ian learns that he doesn't want to have sex with some distant sorority sister because his heart belongs to the girl next door. With its well-developed characters and solid plotline, this book is good fun for older YAs. Susan Riley, Mount Kisco Public Library, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh Out Loud!!!, July 19, 2006
This review is from: All the Way (Hardcover)
Hillarious! I loved this book and could not put it down. Not only is the plot funny but the writing is hillarious. I have never read a book where I actually laughed out loud -- but with this book, i did all the time. I could not put the book down and finished it in two days.

Attention parents: it is not one of those slutty teen books either. Not to be an ending spoiler, but this writer, in the end, shows that he has respect for women.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Little Book to Kill the Time, December 21, 2009

This review is from: All the Way (Splashproof edition) (Paperback)
I discovered "All the Way" after watching the movie "Sex Drive" and noticing it in the credits. I thought the movie had some pretty funny scenes/jokes and decided I would check out the book because of the old axiom of how the book is 100x better than the movie. Not this time. It turns out that the movie was (loosely) based on this novel. Unfortunately, I would have to rate the movie better than the book because of the rather tweenie feel of the novel. The book is nowhere near as daring as the movie was in terms of language, sexuality, comedy, etc. But I must admit that it kept me hooked until the very last page. It becomes extremely obvious towards the end of the book that the target audience is floating around the age of 14. Which isn't a bad thing, necessarily. But I was really hoping that the author was going to surprise me and deliver on a novel that is supposed to remind the reader of his tumultuous youth. The character development is 2-dimensional and the ending is painfully obvious. But I would still recommend this book to anyone who wants to kill some time whilst keeping a few brain cells firing. I will give the author major points for writing a nice, "cute" ending for the protagonist, especially considering it was somewhat lacking in the film version.

5.0 out of 5 stars a book that you will never stop laughing., July 19, 2006

This review is from: All the Way (Hardcover)
All the Way is a very well put together book that is ultimatley very hilarious and very realistic. I liked it because i could connect to this book because being a teenager it is sometimes harder to connect with adult-like books. This book just made me laugh and realize that my friends would do something like that. I am very pleased with this book and i would reccomend anyone to read it even if you are an adult. There are a lot of ways that you could find your own humor in this wonderful novel.
