4.0 out of 5 stars Walk Through These Evil Streets... {4 ½ Stars}, July 2, 2007
This review is from: All We Got Iz Us (Audio CD)
Ah yes. All We Got Iz Us. When this joint came out, I was skeptical because I didn't really feel Bacdafucup like most folks did back in '93. I found their constant screaming somewhat gimmicky. Similar to Das Efx, there were a lot of cats biting their style back the early 90's. Just like cats were jacking the "iggety" from Das, cats were screaming all over their records after they saw how many units Onyx moved on their debut. When I first heard "Last Dayz" I was hyped up because they weren't yelling and they still came off crazy hard. I copped every single from this album as well as the entire album on vinyl and CD. The production is what I love most about this album. Surprisingly, the entire album is produced by Fredro himself (Sticky produces one track). That shocked me because I didn't even know he made beats and these beats are super dope.

There aren't many flaws because the album, despite a distinctly east coast/early 90's sound, has matured very well over the years. If anything, there are moments when the members of Onyx regress into their gimmicky screams, but it's totally tolerable because the production is better than it was on their debut and all three members rip their verses.

All We Got Iz Us is still the best Onyx release out there. They are still puttin' in work on the independent level, but they haven't come close to topping this album 13 years after its release. Like one reviewer said already, there's no filler, no fluff, and no radio friendly singles. It's just Onyx ripping track after grimy track. If you like your rap hard or if you dig that early 90's east coast style then I highly recommend adding this CD to your music library.

Standout Tracks: Purse Snatchaz, Live Nig*z, Last Dayz (My Favorite), All We Got Iz Us (Evil Streets), Punkmotherf*kaz

5.0 out of 5 stars All We got Iz us, August 4, 2004
This review is from: All We Got Iz Us (Audio CD)
This album has to be in the top 25 of greatest rap cd's ever. In my opinion BACDAFUCUP by onyx is in the top 5. All We got iz us is the grimiest of the 3 real onyx cd's (disincluding triggernometry and bacdafucup 2). It has sick and dark beats and a lot more reference to death. The most popular song is problably Last Dayz, if you've seen 8 mile the beat is used during a freestyle. Shout is a classic loud onyx screaming song which is nicely done. Betta off dead is probably the worst song on the album just cause of the beat which is just the word "onyx" turned into a beat. Live Niguz is my favorite song on the album. Then everything from Most Def to Walk in New York are AWESOME. Lots of people forgot about Onyx cause of all the bitchass rappers now a day who cant even flow, so pick up some onyx

4.0 out of 5 stars Afficial Nast, August 30, 2004
This review is from: All We Got Iz Us (Audio CD)
After unleashing their fury on the rap audience on their 1993 title-says-it-all debut "Bacdafucup", one of the rawest and roughest pieces of work in hiphop up to that date, a sonic desert of an album in which traces of what could be called a melody had to be sought for thouroughly in some songs, the south Queens group called Onyx popped up again with what would probably be the best album in their history

Evidently, the ferocious balhedz kept it hardcore on this follow-up. Still, the production style is different - MC Fredro Starr did almost all the production and his arrangements are impressively skillful. "Last Dayz" is an incredible opener and, even though it's hardcore rap, a cleverly implanted vocal sample and its background melody provide this song more soul than any Onyx track had before. The following title track is rougher and more like what you would have expected, but with "Purse Snatchaz" kicking in you are already taken back to vocal samples and a sound that was typical for N.Y. hiphop in the mid-90's but in the case of Onyx was a clear sign of progression

Now I am not trying to say that musically this album is completly different from their popular first effort, and the more melodic style is not ubiquitous on here - many tracks have a very similar feel to them that the tracks on "Bacdafucup" had, for example "Shout" is not far from the famous bawling anthem "Slam"

Lyrically, this album comes to me as a little bit more serious than their oldest work. While Sticky Fingaz still tends to put himself into the role of the completly deranged maniac that made him famous and unique, he does say some more thoughtful and true stuff at times, a side of his that he would not show completly before his great solo album "Black Trash" a few years later. Fredro and Sonsee, while not having Sticky's charisma and comically insane style, contribute to the lyrical side of this album doing relentless hardcore verses, Fredro often outshining the others as for flow and other technicalities

Generally, if you like some other Onyx stuff, this album should be nice for you. In hindsight, one can say that the state the group was in in 1995 was only a logical part of its progress and the album they created during this time might be the highlight in a catalog of solid to very good releases

5.0 out of 5 stars Live N*guz !!, August 1, 2003

This is one of the best rap albums out of Queens, NY, and there's been a lot of great ones, since Queens seems to be home(or at least birthplace) of some of the best rappers of all time, including Nas, Kool G Rap, Cormega, Mobb Deep, etc., etc. This is one of my favorite albums of any genre of music, and if you like grimy street beats, and crazy violent lyrics/imagery, then this album is sure to please. Even the skits on here fit right in(unlike on a lot of albums, where they sometimes seem out of place or leave you wondering what the ____ they meant by putting them in there), and I especially like "maintain", but all of the tracks on this one are great, so if you're in the mood for some no nonsense violent real street raps, you can't go wrong with this one.

From begining to end this album is spot on. I mean howay, is there another song that realeses as much stress than Shout...No, is there another verse that tells you more truth about dealing like Sticky's verse in Last dayz...No. These nutters with brains talk about nothing but the truth, the violent reality that we all live in and the more I listen to it, the more I love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars THESE EVIL STREETZ IS RUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, June 22, 2007
This review is from: All We Got Iz Us (Audio CD)
I am not an ONYX fan but this is a damn good album. Its pure NY circa 1995. Grimy beats dark tone pure street. This when NY seemed like a place where you would get your azz kicked. Now it one big Party wooohooo. They where more focused on death on this one than the first album. The beats are good at this time in hip hop albums actually took you places and where interesting to listen to. Ni@@as seem to try harder in those dayz. 95 i an convinced was a land mark year for NY hip hop. Check out Smiff n Wessun and Mobb dDeep The Infamous. Lata

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw, gritty, and slept on!, May 25, 2007

This was Onyx's best album and most people missed it cause there was no videos or airplay of any song. It was an street album that was gritty and raw with many punchlines and full of evil and darkness. It was straight hip hop at its' best with no B/S. The best songs are Last Dayz, Mos Def, Ghetto Mentalitee, All We Got Is Us and Walk In New York. If you are like me (a fan of old school), you got to have this album. It's hard to believe it has been 12 years since this album came out and it still goes hard after all these years. It's CD's like this that will never allow me to get into the B/S that's out today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Onyx - All We Got Iz Us, January 9, 2007
This review is from: All We Got Iz Us (Audio CD)
Wow, Onyx does it again! Bacdafucup was easily a classic album in its own. The lyrics, the style, the production was all perfect on that album. But this album is no different, it comes correct in all forms! And one thing better about this album, some of the beats are darker.

The production on this album is just insane, there isnt one beat on this album that I dislike or think is weak. Onyx sounds perfect over these types of beats, if you like grimey and gritty banger type beats then youll love this album. If you liked the beats on Bacdafucup, youll like this album. The production on this album succeeds greatly. Check it out. Some of my favorite beats are the songs, "Last Dayz", "All We Got Iz Us", "Shout", "Betta Off Dead", "Getto Mentalitee", "2 Wrongs". I mean every song has a good beat but those are my favorites.

The lyrics are also good, Onyx is about the streets and whats real. They speak it on this album. The grimeyness they bring, the energy and the flow they bring is just insane literally, it makes the whole album enjoyable. If your a fan of hardcore hip-hop, grimey hip-hop and the 90's sound then youll like this album. Check it out.

My Top 5 Songs
1.Last Dayz
2.Shout
3.Betta Off Dead
4.Getto Mentalitee
5.2 Wrongs

5.0 out of 5 stars Best onyx' record, August 5, 2005
This review is from: All We Got Iz Us (Audio CD)
Here you have the best album these guys ever put down. Suncee, Sticky F, and F. Starr all seem to keep outdoing each other when they rap. Each MC keeps raising the intensity, provoking better rhymes, etc. etc. The production is real dark and sets the mood of the album from the start. A must own!
