Editorial Reviews

The debut album from S. Carey, All We Grow, is the result of a young lifetime immersed in music. As a band member of Bon Iver, Sean Carey witnessed a flip of his formal training to step firmly into a worldwide-touring rock band. His performance degree in classical percussion and his love for jazz drumming prepared him for a central role in the inspiring force of the Bon Iver live show.

This is the kind of album you listen to while walking through nature (or play in the background to de-stress as you work). I listened to the audio preview, didn't find it exceptionally interesting, but found it on Grooveshark on a lark. This is definitely MY kind of music. Slow, haunting, beautiful arrangements, pleasing harmonies. Apparently this guy played in Bon Iver, so if you like that, I bet you'll like this. It reminded me somewhat of Dawes latest effort, North Hills, in its tempo. I don't know about you, but I tend to get tired of upbeat songs significantly faster than down tempo songs. I've listened to North Hills MANY times and yet I keep coming back. I bet All We Grow will receive the same treatment.

The audio samples don't do this one justice. Check it out on Grooveshark. And then buy it :)

One of the best CD's I've heard this year. Highly recommended. I enjoy the vocal harmony and the dreamy but still structured songs from this talented songwriter. I'd give this CD more than five stars if I could.

I LOVE this album. I'm a huge fan of Bon Iver and S. Carey has the same sort of feel to his music. It makes me just want to curl up in a blanket with a hot cup of tea and watch the snow fall outside my window. Calming and beautiful.

I really love the music of S. Carey - it's very emotional, nostalgic, filled with happiness as well as melancholy. Over-fulfilled my expectations:) It's quite experimental and surprising.

I first heard of S. Carey via one of Urban Outfitter's LSTN samplers. I was immediately hooked on his song "In the Dirt," so I downloaded the album via Amazon digital download and left it in my itunes library with the intent of eventually listening to the entire album. So, a few nights ago I was unable to sleep, and I decided to give the album a go. Man, why did I wait so long to listen to this? The song "We Fell" is worth the entire price of the album. It's absolutely stunning. I cannot stop listening to it. You can tell that S. Carey was heavily influenced by the Beach Boys and Wisconsin, where he grew up. The first track, Move, begins with the tranquil sounds nature and water, and it immediately prepares the listener for exactly what kind of album to expect as a whole. Lyrically and vocally, it has an overall melancholic atmosphere. It's the perfect album to listen to on a sleepless night or when you're curled up in a blanket and feeling contemplative or lazy. I love it. Buy this album! I think you'll love it too!
